Another boy succumbs to injuries

Head constable rams jeep in Sector 35/36 rotary, killed 
The jeep that was involved in the accident parked at the Sector 36 police station in Chandigarh. Chandigarh, November 22
In a fatal accident, a head constable attached with the Punjab Police died after the car, he was driving, rammed into the Sector 35/36 roundabout in the wee hours here today. The victim has been identified as Manjeet Singh and reportedly declared brought dead at the PGI.

Syndicate approves grading system for NSS volunteers
Chandigarh, November 22
Panjab University distance education, correspondence and part-time students of Master of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology and Master of Philosophy in Psychiatric Social Work will not be able to pursue MPhil from now onwards. This decision was taken in the Syndicate meeting held today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover.

NSS volunteer awarded
Shelly, a NSS volunteer of the Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh, was given the Indira Gandhi National NSS Award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, by President Pranab Mukherjee. The award comprises an amount of Rs 15,000, a silver medal and a certificate. She is the first volunteer from this region to win this award. Shelly has significant achievements in the field of NSS and community outreach programmes in Chandigarh.

The Mohali police spent a total of Rs 1.82 crore on making special security arrangements to maintain law and order in connection with Rampal’s case hearings in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Mobile outlet fined for faulty handset

The consumer court today directed a mobile outlet to pay the amount of a mobile, i.e. Rs 8,900, that was found defective after the purchase. The court has also directed the outlet to pay the charges for mental agony as well as the cost of litigation.

UT commission quick on disposing of cases concerning consumers

The State Consumer Commission, Chandigarh, headed by Justice Sham Sunder (retd), has decided 62 complaints out of the 122 received this year, within a period of one month. The disposal of cases is well within the time frame of three months.

After electing to bowl first, IS Dev Samaj School Club restricted the rivals’ batting line up on a mere total of 77 runs in 16.2 overs. For batting side, Rajni scored 24 runs.

200 wrestlers take part in kushti competition
