Newly formed nagar panchayats are facing an acute shortage of staff and funds. They have requested the state government to pay special attention to the development of the areas under their jurisdiction.

Shoorveer Singh Rangar, president of the Chinyali Saur Nagar Panchayat, speaking on sidelines of a conference of municipalities and nagar panchayats in Mussoorie, today said it was getting difficult to run the day-to-day affairs of the nagar panchayat due to the paucity of funds and the shortage of staff.

He added attention should be paid to newly created nagar panchayats like Chinyali Saur and adequate funds should be provided for their smooth functioning.

Rangar said a Rs 36 crore Central project to provide potable water to Chinyali Saur was sanctioned during the tenure of former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna but with the change of government at the Centre, the efforts for the project had taken a back seat.

He said as Chinyali Saur was situated on the banks of the Tehri Lake, it should be included in the mega project being envisaged for the development of water sports and tourism. He promised to raise the issue during the conference.
