Youth dies of drug overdose

A 21-year-old youth died of suspected drug overdose at Daad village here. The deceased has been identified as Damanjit Singh, a daily wage earner. He had gone missing from his house yesterday. His body was found on the back of a fuel station in the city this morning.

PCTE student excels in PTU exam
Bhawanpreet Kaur Barrhing, a student of BSc (Biotech) 2012 batch of the Punjab College of Technical Education (PCTE), stood first in the Punjab Technical University in the fourth semester examination. She scored 89.50 per cent marks. Two other students of the same batch - Radhika Chauhan and Simran Singh Sachdev - secured third position in the university with 86.13 per cent marks. In the Biotech 2013 batch, Gurneelam Kaur from the PCTE stood third in the second semester university examination, whereas Gimmi Sacher, Antarpreet Kaur and Gaganpreet Kaur from the PCTE stood sixth, seventh & eighth, respectively, in the university exams. Dr KNS Kang, Director-General, PCTE Group of Institutes, congratulated the students.

GADVASU youth fest begins today

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) will organise its 5th Inter-College Youth Festival on its campus from November 4 to November 9.
Preparations are being made by the authorities for conducting the festival in a smooth and transparent manner.
Garbage chokes Barewal

The residents of Barewal are perturbed over the alleged lackadaisical approach of Municipal Corporation. The civic body has not lifted garbage from the area for a long time now despite repeated complaints by the residents.

Further cut in diesel rates ignites fare cry

With reduction in diesel prices by Rs 2.25, the demand for cut in bus fares has become all the more powerful.
“Earlier, the rates were increasing, so it was justified in a way for the Punjab government to increase the fares as well. But, now when the diesel rates have reduced up to Rs 6 in the past ten days, the authorities concerned seem to be in no mood to decrease the bus fares.

Pvt agencies buying basmati, paddy procurement hit

Unheeding experts’ advice, a majority of the farmers grew basmati this time.
The District Administration claimed that achieving the target of procuring the paddy would be difficult this year as basmati was being purchased by private agencies only. It is learnt that government agencies are purchasing the remaining varieties of paddy.
