Sec 49 murder case cracked

Three days after a 27-year-old woman was found murdered at her flat in Sector 49, the Chandigarh police claim to have cracked the case. The police have arrested the sister and a friend of Amit Chaudhary, who was a live-in partner of the victim. The suspects have been remanded in two-day police custody.

High prices hit cracker sales at Kurali market

Wholesalers dealing in crackers here are an unhappy lot. They claim that their sales have dipped by about 40 per cent this
Diwali. According to businessmen of Kurali, a small town which houses the largest wholesale cracker market of the region, one of reasons for the poor sales are that the rates of crackers have increased by 15 to 20 per cent this year.

Chinese lights sparkle, take sheen off ‘Make in India’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make In India” initiative for promoting indigenous products seems to have fallen flat, at least in the city, if one takes a look at markets here ahead of Diwali. In sheer contrast to the PM’s efforts of promoting indigenous goods, city markets are flooded with China-made decorative lights and electronic appliances.
