Doctors to approach IMA

Minister launches campaign

Surjit Kumar Jayani, Health and Family Welfare Minister, said he was confident of the BJP’s victory in the Haryana assembly elections. Jiyani was in the city for the launch of the “Swachh Haath Swasth Bharat” campaign at SPS Apollo Hospital to mark Global Hand Washing Day.

Two booked on charge of rape
Ludhiana, October 15
Two rape cases were reported in different parts of the city here today. In the first case, the Meharban police have booked Ajay Kumar of New Deep Nagar on the Noorwala road for forcibly taking a minor girl on his motorcycle and raping her at a deserted place.

Global Handwashing Day was observed in the city today. SPS Apollo Hospitals launched the “Swachh Haath Swasth Bharat” campaign in a bid to mobilise and motivate people to wash their hands and improve hand hygiene practices.

World Pain Management Week 
Learning art of managing pain

To mark World Pain Management Week, the department of anaesthesia at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital today organised a symposium on pain management which was attended by surgeons and anesthesiologists. Dr Suneet Kathuria, professor, anaesthesia, Dr Jaspal Singh, professor and head of surgery, and Dr Mohd Yamin, professor and head of orthopaedics, delivered lectures.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials today raided a cycle parts manufacturing firm at Focal Point. The officials seized documents pertaining to immovable properties, other assets and data. The officials refused to divulge more details regarding the assets or wealth.

Sacked teachers seek govt intervention
Doraha, October 15
It has been five years now since the ‘selected’ but subsequently sacked teacher fellows have been sitting idle with no jobs. A few teacher fellows have alleged that the authorities concerned had adopted a pick and choose policy. They further alleged that in some cases, they had detected the anomalies committed by the Education Department in the selection and procedure adopted for assigning stations to some candidates.

Relief sought for J&K flood victims

Rajat Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, has appealed to residents to come forward and help the flood victims. Referring to a letter written by Dr Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, Aggarwal said, “The work for rehabilitating flood victims has been going on for a week. More than 6 lakh people lost their houses and many got separated from their near and dear ones.”

7 test positive for dengue
ADC Amrit Kaur Gill with the representatives of political parties in Ludhiana. Seven more patients have tested positive for dengue. A 55-year-old man from Basti Jodhewal and a 27-year-old woman from Model Gram have been hospitalised at the Dayanand Medical College Hospital. Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man from Kartarpur-Jalandhar, an 11-year-old girl from Jalandhar, a 53-year-old woman from Hoshiarpur, 30-year-old man from Ganga Nagar- Rajasthan and a 35-year-old man from Kathua, J&K, are under treatment at the DMCH.

The main objective of universities to organise youth festivals seems diluted with the emergence of new practices to win the competitions during these fests. It is learnt that the colleges spend a huge amount of money to provide professional coaching to students, so that they secure positions in these events. Students are also financially burdened. The festivals, meant to enhance creativity of students and keep them in touch with tradition, culture and folklore, have become a costly affair nowadays. Students hold divided opinion about the involvement of money in these festivals.

Zonal youth fest: GHG college lift trophy

Winners in a jubilant mood. More than 19 education colleges of Punjab took part in the three-day Panjab University, Chandigarh, Zonal Youth Festival (Zone B). Students of GHG Harparkash College of Education for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, near Jagraon, bagged a total of 18 prizes during the festival that concluded at the Bhutta College of Education recently.

Khalsa college shines in PU exams
Students of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, brought laurels to the college by securing positions in the Panjab University examinations held in April 2014. Vasudha Mehra stood third in the university. Mehra scored 78.5 per cent in MCom (second semester) exams. Raspreet Kaur got 78.07 per cent in MCom (second semester) exams and stood fifth in the university.
