Panjab varsity set to adopt CGPA for semester system
Chandigarh, October 13
Panjab University is going to adopt the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for students enrolled under the semester system this year. The issue was raised at a recent meeting of all chairpersons with Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover. The VC instructed all departments to adopt the CGPA in their respective departments.
JERC fixes solar power tariff at Rs 6.80 per unit

On the review application filed by the UT Department of Science and Technology, the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) today revised the solar power tariff and fixed it at Rs 6.80 per unit (KWh).

Road rage lands policemen, youths at police station
Panchkula, October 13
In a case of road rage, Chandigarh policemen landed at the Chandimandir police station in Panchkula after they had a scuffle with two youths over the overtaking of a car near the Morni T-point.
Four constables of the Chandigarh police were on their way back from Morni when they had a scuffle with the youths near the T-point late last night.

Civic body takes U-turn

Three days after its decision to allow stalls of fire crackers only at three places — the Circus Ground in Sector 17, Exhibition Ground, Sector 34, and Mani Majra — today the municipal corporation (MC) decided to allow old licence holders to set up stalls at different places in various sectors and villages.

Token system still not in place at PGI
Chandigarh, October 13
Despite having a ready solution for relieving thousands of patients from the uncertainty of finding their turn in OPDs owing to heavy rush everyday, the PGIMER has continued to overlook the urgent need of launching the token system.
Most patients are forced to stick to corridors in the OPDs for over 6 hours after reaching the hospital waiting for their turn.

Consignment of 1,800 injections seized, one held
Chandigarh, October 13
The local police, during a naka, seized a consignment of 1,800 injections. Ashok Kumar, a resident of Sector 56, was carrying them in three ice boxes, on Monday morning.
The accused was arrested while carrying 900 labelled ‘Kevin injections’ and 900 injections without any label. During the preliminary investigations, the police disclosed that the accused had hit a vehicle in Sector 56 and while fleeing from the spot was caught at the check post.
Women continue to be soft targets in city
UT woman constable manhandled, three booked

The local police has booked four persons who allegedly misbehaved with a woman constable on duty, and tried to outrage her modesty on Monday at Mauli Jagran.
The police said Mangat Ram, a resident of Mauli Jagran, and three others, have been booked for misbehaving with constable Poonam

Woman employee slaps cop
Chandigarh, October 13
A UT policeman was slapped by a staff member working in the Gynaecology Ward of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, here today.
Eyewitnesses said the accused allegedly began passing lewd comments on female staff members of the Gynaecology Ward, following which a staff member slapped the accused. Sources said the accused had been identified as Tasvir Singh, belonging to a rank of a constable in the Chandigarh Police.

CME on brigham-nephrology course ends

The three-day International continuous medical education (CME) - ‘PGIMER-Brigham-Nephrology Course’ - concluded on Sunday.
The CME was organised by the PGI’s Department of Nephrology and started on October 10. The purpose of the event was to avail benefit of experience of American nephrologists of the Indian origin along with Indian faculty.

Bank penalised, told to pay compensation
Mohali, October 13
The Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), headed by Jagroop Singh Mahal, has penalised IDBI Bank, Phase 3B2, here, for causing harassment to a customer.
The adalat directed the bank manager to release Rs 1,35,105 along with interest at 9 per cent per annum to Himmat Singh of Dhurali village and also pay him Rs 10,000 as cost of litigation and Rs 25,000 as compensation for causing him mental and physical harassment.
1 quintal of cream destroyed

About one quintal of cream was destroyed and samples of paneer and ghee were collected for laboratory tests by a team of officials which carried out a check on a manufacturing unit in Jagatpura village here today.

Panjab University is going to host a two-day national discussion meet on research to devise concrete plans on how to make Indian universities research oriented.

The students demanded that revaluation result should be announced within two days. The entry time in the administrative block for university campus students having ID cards should be made from 9 am to 5 pm. Students should be allocated time to meet the Vice-Chancellor in working hours.

City students to take part in global contest

Three students of Vivek High School, Chandigarh, will participate in the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition to be held in Hong Kong from October 16 to October 21.
