Lalru, September 6 Local leaders from different political parties, including Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), have extended their support to the protesters. They even joined an indefinite dharna staged by them. Manpreet Kaur, alias Dolly, today expressed her sympathy with the protesters and sat on dharna for nearly two hours. She also criticised the SAD-BJP government and local MLA for not coming up with a suitable solution. Earlier, Amrik Singh Malikpur, a SAD leader, Harbhajan Singh, Krishan Gupta, Kuljit Randhawa and some others from the Congress Party had joined the protesters. Accusing the management of violating Labour Laws in connivance with the Punjab government, scores of employees of Panacea and PanEra Biotec Private Limited companies are on a war path for the last 10 months. Jasmer Singh Rana and Pawan Kumar Sharma, president and general secretary of the Panacea and PanEra Biotec Employees Union, Lalru, respectively, accused the company management for showing doors to old employees and recruiting new ones. The striking employees have claimed to have given various representations to local MLA NK Sharma, but to no avail. The management of the pharmaceutical company, however, claimed to have restrained 106 employees and have also refused to take others back on job because of some litigation. |

Ambala girl operated for rare ailment
Banur, September 6 The young girl from Ambala, was operated upon by surgical gastroenterologist Dr Mudit Kumar and his team. Dr Mudit said, “The pain used to worsen after intake of meals and was almost followed with repeated vomiting. As a result, she had not been unable to eat and drink properly. She had lost weight too.” It was found that she was suffering from diabetes. Medical investigated further diagnosed her to be suffering from a very rare condition Celiac Axis Syndrome. “In this disease, the artery, which supplies blood to liver, stomach, abdominal esophagus, spleen and the superior half of both the duodenum and pancreas, gets compressed, leading to reduced blood flow to these organs which causes pain. The severity of pain varies according to the level of compression,” added Dr Mudit. — TNS |

Chandigarh, September 6 Shukla was arrested on September 3. Two days ago, the CBI had stumbled upon evidence to establish Shukla’s involvement in the purchase of illegal properties worth around Rs 85 lakh during his tenure. The CBI had seized some property documents, following the raid at the Inspector’s residence on September 3. Besides, the CBI is also investigating if the SHO collected monthly bribe from various other quarters such as liquor contractors and owners of shops in the area as well as parking contractors. On September 3, the CBI had arrested Inspector Rajesh Shukla, SHO of the Sector 34 police station, along with head constable Mukesh Kumar and constable Dilbaj Singh in a bribery case of Rs 10,000. |

Flesh trade racket busted in Zirakpur, 9 held
Zirakpur, September 6 All accused were today produced before a court in Dera Bassi and remanded to judicial custody. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and sent two police personnel as decoy customers to a flat in Royal Estate and nabbed nine persons from the spot. Investigating officer (IO), Kewal Singh, claimed to have arrested the kingpin of the trade, Nisha alias Rani of Samana, and Rajji, a resident of Mani Majra, besides seven teenaged girls from the flat. A case under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act, was registered against them at the Zirakpur police station. The IO said of the seven girls, two were from Ghaziabad, one each from Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Ambala. He said accused Nisha was operating the racket from the flat for the past over four months. “Accused Rajji used to work for Nisha on a commission basis and supplied the girls to customers for Rs 4,000-Rs 5,000 per night,” said Singh. “Nisha paid Rs 1,500-Rs 2,000 to every girl and kept the remaining amount with herself,” claimed the Investigating officer. |

Chandigarh, September 6 The police have already arrested his accomplice Sudesh Bhardawaj, an interior designer, with Rs 8 lakh. Bahra, a resident of Sector 21-A, had complained that Rohit Sharma, working as a domestic help, had stolen Rs 10 lakh and an iPad from his house on September 3. “During interrogation, accused Sudesh revealed that the remaining money and iPad was in the possession of co-accused Rohit, who was residing at Sudesh’s native place in district Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh,” said the police. The police said raids were conducted at Pehrwin village in Bilaspur on September 6 and the co-accused was arrested. “The stolen iPad, Rs 8,000, clothes, shoes and an iPhone etc, which he had purchased from the stolen money, has been recovered from his possession,” added the police. |

Domestic help held for thefts
Mohali, September 6 The accused, identified as Babli of Kajheri village, had been working in two houses in Sector 70. She stole 170 gram of gold jewellery from one house and 510 gram of gold ornaments from the other. “We got suspicious when we learnt that the same domestic help was working at the two houses that were targeted,” said a police official. Babli had applied for interim bail, which was rejected by the court. “Today, we arrested her after registering a case under the IPC. She was produced before the court, which has sent her on two days remand under the police custody,” said the police. |

Rahul Jain scored 18 runs off 65 balls with three boundaries along with Shivam Tiwari, who scored 16 runs (not out) off 72 balls, with one boundary. Chandigarh, September 6 DAV College, Sector 10, were the runners-up in the championship while, SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, attained the third spot. Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, claimed fourth position.
