If politics is all about making voters dance to parties' tunes, then PUSU is halfway through. The students' front has come up with in-house peppy numbers in a bid to enter the hearts of PU students and garner their support for the coming student council elections.

Votes up for sale on varsity campus

It's pouring money for small-time leaders on the Panjab University campus having an assured vote bank. Depending upon the number of votes, the leaders, especially those in professional courses, are being bribed with money to swing votes in favour of parties.

The functioning of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) came under a scanner with the local MLA accusing the officials for not taking precautionary measures against diarrhoea that affected more than 320 residents in Sector 19 and Abheypur village of the city.
CTU bus catches fire at ISBT-17
Chandigarh, September 2
Panic gripped passengers at the Sector 17 Inter-state Bus Terminus (ISBT), when the engine of a bus caught fire today.
Some of the passengers were standing on the rear side of the bus when the incident took place.

Community centres to have solar plants

Solar plants will soon be installed at community centres in the city. The Municipal Corporation (MC), has given a go ahead to the proposal of installing solar plants at the Community Centre in Sector 40.
Residents face 8-hour power cut

Unscheduled power cuts have put residents of Baltana, Pabhat and parts of Zirakpur at the receiving end.
Power supply remained suspended for more than 8 hours here on Monday night.

RLA to hold auction on Sept 13

The Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) is going to hold an open auction for vanity numbers of the CH-01-AZ series.
The auction of numbers from 0001 to 0100 will be held on September 13, while the auction for the number 0101 onwards will be held the following day.

PUSU supporters disturb classes

Supporters of the PUSU alliance today entered into an argument with the chairperson of the Centre for Microbial Biotechnology during canvassing on its premises.
The supporters, allegedly, entered the classrooms without taking permission from any teacher and started canvassing.

Gate timings changed

The PU authorities have changed the timings of closing and opening of the varsity’s Gate No. 1. On September 5, i.e. the day of polling, Gate No. 1 (opposite the PGI) will remain closed from 12pm to 4.30pm. However, Gates No. 2 and 3 will remain open as per the earlier schedule. — TNS

Putting waste to use
Chandigarh: Students of the junior wing of the Eco Club of Banyan Tree School, Sector 48, Chandigarh, held a best-out-of-waste event. They prepared waste bins using old cardboard to collect pencil shavings and waste paper.
