Vehicle thief held: Two miscreants on Monday stole two jeeps from the sub-divisional judicial and administrative complex. However, people nabbed one of the culprits as the speeding jeep collided head on with a car.

Ludhiana

Man, parents booked: The city police have booked three persons in a dowry harassment case. The accused have been identified as Puneet Ummat, his father, Narinder, and mother, Suman, all residents of New Tagore Nagar, Haibowal. His wife, Rakhi, told the police that soon after their wedding in March 2011, the trio started harassing her. The three suspects are are yet to be arrested. 

Robbers strike at jewellery shop: Six robbers struck at a jewellery shop on Gyaspura road and decamped with 1kg of silver and 100 grams of gold ornaments. The incident took place at around 8pm when the six persons entered the jewellery shop on the pretext of returning some jewellery. The robbers overpowered the jeweller and fled with silver and gold ornaments. The police has started investigations.

Nangal

Rs 1 lakh looted: Two unidentified youths looted Rs 1 lakh from a woman on Monday. Rama Devi of Dubeta Upparla village told the police that she and her father-in-law Ratan Singh were returning home after withdrawing money from the Nangal branch of Punjab National Bank when two motocycle-borne youths snatched money from her and fled away.

Kabaddi title for SBS Nagar girls: The girl kabaddi team (under-17) of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar emerged winner in 60th Punjab State Inter-District School Games being held at Nehru Stadium on Monday. The silver medal in the category was clinched by Firozepore district, while Bhatinda district got the bronze medal. The Ropar team defeated the Barnala and Pathankot teams by 59-6 and 40-11, respectively, while the Ferozepore team defeated Muktsar team by 39-6. The Ajitgarh team defeated Tarn Taran by 67-42.
