Fatehabad, July 26
An inter-caste marriage has led to tension in Nehla village of Fatehabad after the girl’s kin attacked two villagers belonging to her husband’s caste. The attack forced some families to flee the village.

The police today arrested five members of the girl’s family for rioting and assault even as heavy police has been deployed in the village in view of the tension.

A series of meetings organised by the sarpanch and some prominent villages have failed to end the imbroglio even as the couple, who were living under police protection after the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s orders, have
gone to an undisclosed destination fearing threat to their lives.

Sunil (29) eloped with Ritu (18), both of different sub-castes of the SC community, from the same village some days ago. Later, they appeared before the police on July 23 with the HC’s order directing the police to provide protection to them.

On July 23, the girl’s kin attacked Pawan and Ram Chander of husband’s family. Later, another member of the same community, Veer Bhan, was also attacked.

Since then, members of the community have been living under fear and four of the man’s kin – Jagdish, Suresh, Gobind and Jaila Singh – have fled the village with their families after locking their houses.

Rohtash Kumar, SHO, Bhuna police station, said five persons from the girl’s family– Suraj Mal, Baljit, Manoj, Rajinder and Jaipal – have been arrested for the July 23 incident and police had been deployed in the village to prevent any untoward incident.

Deepender Deswal
Tribune News Service

Hisar, July 26
The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) today suspended seven senior officials, including a chief engineer, superintending engineer and three executive engineers, following a Vigilance inquiry. They have been indicted in a case of financial irregularities in the purchase of pillar boxes in the Faridabad circle.

Sources said the suspended officials included Subhash Deswal, CE, Delhi zone, RS Yadav, SE, three XENs — Vikas Mohan Dahiya, Jitender Dhull, and Ramniwas Yadav — Mandeep Kundu, assistant engineer and Anil Solanki, SDO.

Sources said the Vigilance had started an inquiry against them following a complaint about financial irregularities in the purchase of pillar boxes in the Faridabad circle of the DHBVN. The nigam had given a contract for the purchase of material worth Rs 75 crore in June and December last year.

As per the norms and conditions, the nigam was to release a payment of Rs 25 crore following the purchase of certain material. But the entire payment was released. Moreover, the stock was also shown more than the actual purchase.

Arun Kumar, managing director, DHBVN, confirmed the suspension of seven officials in the case. He said the nigam had started the process of issuing chargesheet to the officials who had been indicted in the Vigilance inquiry.

The opposition leaders have also levelled allegations of irregularities worth crores of rupees in the purchase of material, including transformers and pillar boxes.

INLD MP from Hisar Dushyant Chautala had pointed out at four Congress ministers and one former minister among the high power purchase committee who purchased transformers from 2007 to 2012. He alleged transformers were purchased at higher than the market rate, alleging a Rs 200 crore scam.

Calf from dead Murrah bull’s semen produced
Parveen Arora
Tribune News Service

Karnal, July 26
The scientists at National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, have produced a male clone calf named ‘Rajat’ from the somatic cells of a progeny tested Murrah bull’s frozen semen.

Scientists said: “It is the first alive male clone of the world, which is produced from a somatic cell of frozen semen of a bull, which died 10 years ago and was the best bull of the NDRI ever.”

Earlier, they said they had produced a clone with this method, but it survived only for 13 hours.

NDRI director Dr AK Srivastava said the scientists at the institute produced ‘Rajat’ through the institute’s Hand-guided cloning technique on July 23. The calf was born by normal parturition and its weight at the time of birth was 32 kg.

He said: “The efforts of the scientists, including Dr SK Singla, Dr MS Chauhan, Dr RS Manik, Dr P Palta, Dr Shiv Parsad and Anuj Raja and Amol Sahare, has made this achievement possible.” He said the newborn calf was keeping a good health. The NDRI scientists have been working on the cloning technique for the past 16 years to fulfil the goal of increasing progeny tested bulls and high yielding animals in India, the director said, adding that the technique has proved its worth in the dairy sector for faster multiplication of superior germplasm.

Srivastava said: “There is a shortage of around 80 to 90 million dosage of semen in India and this technique will help in meeting this shortage.”

He said there was an acute shortage of outstanding bulls and the technology of hand-guided cloning could diminish the gap and supply elite bulls in the shortest-possible time.

Dr S Ayyappan, DARE secretary and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, congratulated the team. He said: “This new achievement of producing cloned calf from progeny tested bull will facilitate faster multiplication of elite germplasm and help in facing the challenges of increasing demands of milk due to growing human population.

Rewari, July 26
Three chain-snatching incidents in the past five days have not only exposed the law and order situation in Rewari, but also created panic among women. Nine cases of chain snatching have been reported in the past five months and most of them remain unsolved.

The government has made chain snatching a non-bailable offence with a higher quantum of punishment, but it fails to check crime as such incidents are being perpetrated in a routine fashion here.

In a latest case, two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched the gold chain of one Saroj Sharma of Mohalla Khasapura here on the Konsiwaas road, when she had gone out for some work last night. She raised an alarm, but to no avail.

A similar case happened three days ago, when two motorcycle-borne youths grabbed the gold chain of one Jyoti of Sajjan Colony at the TP Scheme locality, while she was on her way to the temple.

A day before this incident, two youths on a bike snatched the gold chain and a ring of Deepika at gun point in Sector 3 here. Saroj Bala, who is a house wife, said: “Rewari city has become a hunting ground for criminals who are fearlessly perpetrating the crime due to police inaction.” Neelam, a teacher, said: “The police must ensure the safety of women in Rewari, as it has become unsafe for them to venture out due to rising crime in the city.”

Snatching spree

  • July 25: Woman's gold chain snatched on Konsiwaas Road
  • July 22: Two miscreants snatched gold chain of a woman in TP Scheme locality
  • July 21: Armed youths snatched gold ring and the chain of a woman at Sector 3

BJP may go solo this Assembly polls
Parvesh Sharma

Jind, July 26
Cracks have appeared in the BJP-HJC alliance and its end is near, with a strong indication coming from Union Textile Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar, who was in Jind today. He said the BJP did not need the support of anyone in Haryana to win the forthcoming Assembly poll.

On the directions of senior BJP leaders, Gangwar is in Haryana these days to assess the mood of party workers to help the party in finalising its strategy to go solo in the forthcoming elections or to go in for an alliance with Kuldeep Bishnoi-led HJC.

Gangwar also held a party workers meeting, where a majority of party workers and leaders advocated that BJP must go it alone from all 90 Assembly seats in the state.

“Presently we are preparing to go solo. Whether BJP will have an alliance with HJC or not, I cannot comment over it as I am not the final authority. After taking a final decision over the fate of the alliance in the coming days, we will finalise our poll strategy,” said Gangwar.

The statement appears to be a big setback to Kuldeep Bishnoi, who three days ago in Jind, had claimed that there was no problem and the alliance was on track.

About the appointment of senior BJP leader Kaptan Singh Solanki as the new Governor of Haryana amid the ongoing tussle over the formation of HSGMC and speculations that Solanki may review the legality of the HSGMC Act, Gangwar refused to comment.

Answering a query on the of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee for the state, Sharma said the Sikhs of the state deserved their rights, but Hooda had been playing dirty politics of divide and rule and had politicised the issue.

Hooda govt failed to utilise Central funds, says Union minister
Dharmendra Joshi
Tribune News Service

Panipat, July 26
Contrary to the claims made by Bhupinder Singh Hooda led Congress government in Haryana, it has failed to utilise even half the funds allocated to it by the Centre under various schemes in the past financial year.

Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said this while addressing a gathering here today during the Kisan-Mazdoor Sammelan organised by state president of Bharatiya Kisan Morcha Mahipal Dhanda, who is aspiring to get a BJP ticket from Panipat Assembly seat.

Radha Mohan Singh said: “The Centre had allocated ~542 crore under various agricultural schemes to Haryana in 2013-14, but it did not utilise ~266 crore and this amount had to be returned.”

Urging state electors to oust the “anti-farmer” and “anti-public” Hooda government in the coming elections, he said: “The Swaminathan Commission was set up by the Vajpayee government in 2003 to benefit farmers and was reconstituted in 2004. It had then submitted its report with over 200 pro-farmer recommendations in 2007. Now, the Modi government will implement these recommendations gradually, as it is performing its responsibility of clearing the mess created by the Congress governments during its 60-year rule.”

He said the Modi government in its two-month’s rule had already started two new important agricultural schemes — Pradhan Mantri Gram Sinchai Yojana and providing a Soil Health Card (SHC) to every farmer.

BJP state co-incharge Dr Anil Jain urged voters to repeat history of BJP’s victory in the coming Assembly polls.

Thanking the Modi government and agriculture minister for announcing a Central Horticulture University in Haryana, Bharatiya Kisan Morcha national president OP Dhankhar said the Hooda government had failed to provide uninterrupted power to farmers despite his 10-year rule. Mahipal Dhanda said the Hooda government was playing a cruel joke with state farmers by providing Rs 5 and Rs 10 as compensation against their damaged crops.

Hundreds of government employees from the district, under the aegis of the Sarv Karamchari Sangh, started their 24-hour-long fast support of their demands today. Employee leaders Mahinder Sharma, Avinash Kamboj and Ashok Kumar presided over the dharna of the employees.

Addressing the striking Sarv Karamchari Sangh activists, JP Pandey, a state-level leader of the sangh, alleged that the Haryana government was not serious about solving problems of the farmers.

The sangh leader alleged the state government had termed the employee’s demands genuine during talks with them, but it had failed to issue orders to show that their demands had been fulfilled. He alleged that the state government’s policy of regularisation of temporary employees had proved a farce.

Fatehabad: Bhag Chand Sharma, district president, Sarv Karamchari Sangh, and Kurra Ram, organising secretary, presided over the 24-hour fast of the employees that began outside the DC office here today. The fast will continue till 10 am tomorrow, said the SKS spokesperson.
