30 boxes of illicit liquor seized:
The police have recovered 30 boxes of illicit liquor during a checking near Kotha Guru village. They have arrested Sukhwinder Singh and Balbir Singh, residents of Kotha Guru village, under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act. The accused were in a Mahindera car (PB-03-P-5353).

Three booked for assault: The police have booked three persons for thrashing a resident of Akalian Jalal village over a land dispute. In a complaint, Gurjant Singh said he was attacked by Sukhmander Singh, Manpreet Singh and Harpreet Singh of the same village. A case under Sections 452, 324, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Dyalpura police station.

One arrested with illegal weapon: The police have arrested a person with illegal weapon during a checking at Lehra Bega village. They have arrested Simranjit Singh, a resident of Poohla with 315 bore weapon and one live cartridge. A case has been registered under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Nathana police station.

Body found from Goniana: A body was found floating in Goniana canal on Saturday. Volunteers of Sahara Jan Sewa took out the body. Gautam Goyal of the Sahara Jan Sewa said, "It seems that the body is seven days old and nothing has been found from which the identification of the deceased can be made."

Youth booked
: The police has booked a youth for sending lewd SMSes to a schoolteacher. The complainant said she had been receiving such messages for the past three months, adding that the act had traumatised her.  The police are trying to trace the sender. SHO Sukhdeep Singh said they had started a probe and would arrest the accused soon.

Court complex inaugurated:
A four-member team of the Punjab and Haryana High Court judges on Saturday inaugurated the court complex in Malout, built at a cost of Rs 12 crore. The team comprised Justice TPS Mann, Justice Bharat Bhushan Parsoon, Justice Paramjeet Singh and Justice Rameshwar Singh Malik.

Man, son killed in dispute:
A man killed his father over a property dispute, while his younger brother avenged his father's murder in Mehmoodpur village on Saturday. The accused has been arrested. Manjit (42) allegedly crushed his father Karnail (76) and then Manjit's brother Swarn killed him with a sickle.

Phagwara
Stir against police inaction: Hundreds of Ambedkar Sena activists blocked the national highway near Sugar Mills Chowk on Saturday, protesting police inaction. They demanded that the accused who threw acid on a girl a few days ago be arrested.

Sangrur
Farmer commits suicide:
A farmer from Nagra village near Bhawanigarh, Balwinder Singh (50), allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree. The police also recovered a suicide note and have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Gurwinder Singh and Bhupinder Singh of Sanghrerri village.

Transporters block road: Drivers and conductors of private buses on Saturday blocked the Sangrur-Barnala road at Mastuana Sahib, 5 km from here, against the "thrashing" of a conductor.

Champawat
Tamli road being cleared:
Public Works Department engineers are removing debris and slush form the Champawat-Tamli road. Though the road was open to minor traffic on Saturday, it would take two more days to be fully ready for transportation. “As heavy debris is still deposited on the road at Haram, Ninori, Simiasuri and Kari villages, we need two more days to restore regular transportation to the Tamli valley that is facing a crunch of essential supplies from the district headquarters,” said district administration sources.

Cops on trail of rapists:
A police team has been sent to Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh to nab four culprits who allegedly molested and raped a minor girl from Bhawali repeatedly. The maternal uncle of the girl had allegedly sold her to them in 2009. The police have arrested the maternal uncle and formed a team to nab four other culprits. “The girl with help of some persons managed to escape from a Hapur hospital. She narrated her ordeal to the police.A case will be registered after all culprits are arrested,” said Vimmi Sachdeva, SSP, Nainital.

Rudrapur
Lifetime achievement award:
The state Sports Directorate has decided to give award to senior sportsmen of the state in the category of lifetime achievement for contribution in the field of sports. Applications for the award will be invited from this year. “We have decided to seek applications from senior sports persons of the state for Lifetime Achievement Award in any sport, besides Khel Ratna and Utarakhand Dronacharya,” said Ajay Aggarwal, Deputy Director, Sports. The sports persons in all three categories will be given awards on November 9.
