Constable’s wife attempts suicide

A constable’s wife poured kerosene on her outside the Commissioner’s office at Mini-Secretariat today. The woman, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, was rounded up by the Division No. 5 police. SHO Dharampal said the woman’s statement was recorded.

Overcharging bug bites parking contractor 
Contractors are supposed to put up boards displaying rates, but the MC is asking private firms to do the job. Ludhiana, July 22
Parking contractors continue to fleece visitors. At some places, they have put up worn-out boards displaying rates. Ramit Saxena, an activist of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), alleged that parking attendants had damaged the board installed outside Ansal Plaza.

Stress laid on increasing exports 
Ludhiana, July 22
Federation of Indian Export Organisations (North) organised a panel discussion in Ludhiana. SC Ralhan, regional chairman of the federation said infrastructure of International standards, availability of continuous power to the industry and timely refund of taxes are some of the steps that should be taken by the state government for increasing exports.

State-level meeting
State-level meeting of World Human Rights Council was held at Circuit House today. It was presided over by Nirmal Kaira, president of the organisation. Office-bearers of the organisation were announced during the meeting. Akhsay Arora was appointed as national vice-chairman, Kulwant Singh Sidhu as general secretary, Nell Kanth Sarolia as national secretary. Office-bearers for the state including PRO, VP, general secretary, secretary, legal body, Punjab and district presidents were also appointed.

New industries: FICO lauds lifting of moratorium

The Central Pollution Control Board decided to lift the moratorium on new industries in Ludhiana. Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisation has welcomed the decision taken by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for lifting ban on Industry. The industry in the city is set to flourish while giving a boost to the already existing units.

Deceased Sant Parkash Kalra Scribe found murdered in Samrala
Samrala, July 22
Sant Parkash Kalra (62), a scribe working for a Punjabi vernacular daily of Samrala, was found murdered near Saloudi village today. His body, spotted in bushes, had multiple wounds and seemed to have been beaten with a stick. Sant Parkash Kalra was missing since last night.

The Municipal Corporation Commissioner today allocated work of various branches of the civic body to newly joined Additional Commissioners Ghansham Thori and Rishipal Singh besides moving some officers to other branches. The MC chief, Pradeep Aggarwal, has given Ghansham Thori the charge of bridges and road, operations and maintenance, accounts, projects, e-governance and computer, city bus and A2Z branches. Rishipal Singh will take care of the Zone C (as Zonal Commissioner), advertisement branch, building and drawing branch and legal branch besides acting as the estate officer and Punjab Vidhan Sabha Committee in-charge.
