Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 22
Thousands of Youth Congress workers, under the leadership of Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress president Amit Malik, today held a demonstration at Parliament House to protest against the murder of 29-year-old Salouni from Manipur in the Kotla Mubarakpur area yesterday. A large of students from the Northeast also took part in the demonstration.

Hundreds of youth from the Northeast, including students and professionals, had begun assembling at the Youth Congress headquarters at Raisina Road in the afternoon, and along with thousands of Youth Congress workers, the youth from Northeast expressed their anguish at the murder of Salouni.

Addressing the gathering, Malik said under the rule of the BJP-led government at the Centre, the youth from Northeast were not safe. Malik, referring to Narendra Modi's statement on the death of Northeast youth Nido Tania from Arunachal Pradesh in February, said Modi had then accused Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi of indulging in politics, and alleged that they were not taking note of the attacks on the youth of the Northeast in Delhi.

Malik said despite Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister, the situation had not changed as now Salouni from Manipur had become the victim of the violence against the people from Northeast. Modi had no time to think about their safety and security.

"Why Narendra Modi has not visited the relatives of Salouni, and not ordered a probe into his murder?" he asked.

Malik said after the death of Nido Tania, the students of Northeast had filed 359 police complaints, but the police had not taken any action against those complaints till now.

He urged Home Minister Rajnath Singh to ensure the safety and security of people from the Northeast in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the fourth accused in the murder case of a 29-year-old Manipuri man, Akha Salouni, was arrested by the Delhi Police today.

Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 22
Three men were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a Honda City car at south Delhi’s R K Puram locality last night.

The men have been identified by the police as Balwinder, alias Mintu (33), Lakshman, alias Raju (32), and Nishant, alias Nishu (32). All of them were married. “They were close friends. They had started an online catering business about four months ago,” said a police officer, privy to the details of the case.

At about 10.30 pm on Monday, the police were informed by a local that three men were lying unconscious in a Honda City car at R K Puram. The police reached the site where the car was parked. They took the three victims to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in south Delhi, where the doctors declared them dead.

The police conducted the postmortems at AIIMS today.

“The postmortems were conducted because we suspect that there is foul play in their deaths. Their families had asked us to verify if their deaths may have been caused by something they had eaten. We have preserved the viscera of the victims, which will be examined by the Delhi government’s Forensic Science Laboratory in Rohini,” said the officer.

While narrating the sequence of events, the officer said that at about 11 am on Monday, Balwinder took his Honda City car from his residence at Kishangarh located near south Delhi’s posh Vasant Kunj locality. The police are not clear where he had gone before picking Nishant from Laxmibai Nagar, another south Delhi locality, at about 2.30 pm. At about 3.30 pm, they picked Lakshman from sector-4 in R K Puram.

“They then went to pay a person. What we have learnt is that this person is possibly a confectioner,” said another police officer, privy to the details of the case.

“They returned to R K Puram and parked the car in front of Lakshman’s grocery shop. They sat inside the car and turned the airconditioner on. At about 10 pm, they were found unconscious by the locals,” said the officer, adding that a packet of chips was found in the car.

Metro cheer for smart card users
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 22
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has revised its minimum recharge amount using token vending machines (TVMs) to Rs 100 from Rs 200. In the last two months, this is the second such revision of smart card recharge value in which the transport service provider has also fixed Rs 50 as subsequent add value to the smart cards as against the current Rs 100.

However, the initial add value through customer care centres remains unchanged at Rs 200 and with subsequent add value of Rs 100.

Also, according to the DMRC spokesperson, Metro today set the highest ridership record so far with over 26 lakh people commuting by the Metro throughout the day.

He said, "On the basis of feedback and suggestions received from commuters, the add value through TVMs has been fixed at Rs 100 and there upon in multiples of Rs 50 and it can be up to Rs 1,000."

There are about 170 Token Vending Machines installed at 83 stations through which commuters may vend single journey tokens and add value to their smart cards.

DMRC had introduced some changes in its smart card add value and refund rules from May 21 considering most smart card users are regular travellers and with the opening of more corridors of Phase III, the maximum fare required for travel will increase as commuters would cover more distance.

Therefore, increasing the minimum add value of the cards will help the commuters as they won't have to stand in queue and recharge their cards time and again.

The initial minimum add value of the smart cards had been increased from existing Rs 50 to Rs 100 (refundable security of Rs 50 is kept unchanged). Subsequently, from the next transaction, the minimum add value will be of Rs 200 and further add values can be in multiples of Rs 100 if the top-ups are done at customer care centres at the metro stations.

New Delhi, July 22
A 75-year-old man was found murdered with his throat slit in his residence in northeast Delhi's Mansarovar Park this morning. The victim has been identified as Kashiram Panchal. His family alleged to the police that personal enmity with four neighbours is the motive behind the murder, but the police are yet to establish this. No person has been arrested so far.

Kashiram was living with his sons, Pramod, Ashok and Joginder at Shanti Building in Mansarovar Park. His sons are married and live with their families. Kashiram owned a dairy on Mandawali Road in east Delhi. It is run by his sons.

At about 4 am today, Joginder went to his father's room on the ground floor of the building to wake him, but the latter said that he was not feeling well.
