Suicide drama outside Raj Bhawan
Chandigarh, July 12
High drama was witnessed outside the Punjab Raj Bhawan when a Sector-35 resident reached there early in the morning claiming that he had consumed poison and wanted to meet UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil.

Mohali, July 12
The local police were at their wits end when a pilot Gypsy of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal hit an 18-year-old cyclist at Phase XI here this morning. The victim, identified as Amar Kumar, a resident of Jagatpura Colony, was a daily-wage worker, and was going to work at the time of incident.

Converted plots & commercial properties
UT to reduce collector rates in Industrial Area, Madhya Marg
Chandigarh, July 12
The Chandigarh Administration is all set to decrease collector rates — the minimum rate at which the property is registered — of converted plots in the Industrial Area, Phase I and II, which were converted from industrial to commercial, under the conversion policy and commercial properties on the Madhya Marg.

Pink day
Chandigarh: Pandit Mohan Lal SD Public School, Sector 32, celebrated the Pink Day on its campus on Saturday. Tiny tots came to the school in pink attires. The school authorities claimed that the idea was to make students aware of different colours and learn to appreciate them. The students brought pink-coloured food items in their tiffins. At the end of the day, pink tulips were given to each student.

HUDA penalised by redressal forum

In two separate cases, the Chandigarh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has held the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), guilty of wrongly forfeiting the amount of Rs 34,505 deposited by an allottee.

Lok Adalat directs LIC to pay Rs 20,000
Mohali, July 12
The Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), Mohali, headed by Jagroop Singh Mahal, has issued directions to the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) to pay Rs 15,000 to Ran Singh along with interest at the rate of 9 per cent per annum and also pay him Rs 5,000 towards the cost of litigation.

20-year-old girl booked for attempt to suicide

A 20-year-old girl tried to commit suicide by cutting her veins with a blade at Sector 22 on Friday night.

Medical report confirms maid’s rape

The medical report of the 16-year-old maid who was raped by a realtor confirmed the crime. The medical examination of the victim was conducted last night.

Panchkula resident duped of Rs 10 lakh
Panchkula, July 12
A shopkeeper was duped of ten lakh rupees on the pretext of re-allotment of a resumed shop. Complainant Vijay Jindal had a shop in Sector 10, Panchkula, which was resumed by Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA). The accused, a resident of Sector 7 took Rs 10 lakhs and assured Vijay that he will get his shop re-allotted by the HUDA.

Cricket body announces probables’ list

The Panchkula District Cricket association, affiliated to Haryana Cricket association, has announced 22 probables’ list for the preparatory camp. The squad will undergo a coaching camp before the final selection for Haryana State Inter-district Cricket Championship for Pataudi trophy.
