Six-year-old attempts burglary:
A six-year-old boy was caught by residents of the Wadala Chowk area as he was about to flee with a cash bag he managed to take out from the car of a timber merchant this afternoon. Even as there was no formal complaint lodged in this regard, the Bhargo Camp police has sent the boy to a juvenile home.

10-year-old girl raped
: A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped at a barber shop on Noorwala Road in Basti Jodhewal area here on Friday evening. The accused is still at large. On a complaint by the victim’s mother, the police have registered a case.

Complaint filed: The Federation of Punjab Small Industries Association (FOPSIA) filed a police complaint against the chairman of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited for misleading the industry. Batish  Jindal, president, FOPSIA, stated that the PSPCL was imposing unscheduled power cuts. “FOPSIA will soon file a PIL against the PSPCL,” said Batish.

14-year-old ends life
: A Class VIII student, Sukhbir Singh, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan at the house of his relative at Thandewala road here. He was reportedly upset after separating from his mother, who remarried following the death of her husband a few years ago.

3 dead in accident:
Three youths were killed on the spot while two others were injured when the car they were in hit a railing on the Samana-Patiala road on Saturday. The deceased are Patiala residents Jaswinder, Amrik and Nihal.

Protest against police action: Residents of Sanaur on Saturday held a dharna against the area Station House Officer (SHO) after he allegedly thrashed a local youth in a fit of rage. Patiala SSP Hardyal Singh Mann has ordered an inquiry. SHO Amanpal Virk allegedly beat Gurpal Singh when he refused to take off the handkerchief covering his face.

Attack on sage triggers stir:
Tension prevailed in the town when an unidentified naga sadhu was reportedly beaten by a few unknown nihangs at the local Sugar Mills Chowk on Friday. The police swung into action on Saturday, when Hindu organisations staged protests. Though the police registered a case, Shiv Sena threatened to launch statewide agitation, if the accused were not arrested within the next two days.

Fed up with stalking, class X girl ends life:
A class X student committed suicide today as she was reportedly unable to bear the continuous stalking and eve teasing. The victim consumed poison on July 9 but died today and her family blamed it on two auto rickshaw drivers who, according to them, had been following her . The police said Varsha lived with her family in Kartarpuri village near Palam Vihar.

7 booked for beating man to death:
The police booked seven persons after a youth was beaten to death at Musahibwala village of Sirsa. The accused had beaten Baggu, 32, on Thursday night, but he succumbed to his injuries today. Kala allegedly attacked Baggu on Thursday night and beat him mercilessly.

A+ grade for PTCUL:
Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PTCUL) has achieved the A+ grade from a power finance rating company for making regular profits for the last two years due to continuous increase in power houses and transmission lines, said PC Dhyani, an officer of PTCUL. “The transmission capacity of PTCUL, which was 1,802 MBA in 2,000, has increased to 6,437 MBA. It has been able to transmit over 1,800 MW which was sufficient for the need of the state at present,” said Dhyani.

Man jailed for poaching birds:
The Judicial Magistrate, Khatima, on Saturday sentenced a man to three years’ imprisonment for poaching Siberian birds near a pond in the Kilput forest range of the Terai area six years ago. “Five dead Siberan birds were recovered from the house of Mewa Ram, a resident of Lauka village, near the Kilpur range six years ago. An FIR was registered by Sitarganj forest officer Puran Chandra in this regard,” said Gulab Singh, prosecutor in the case.

BJP leader killed:
BJP leader Rakesh Rastogi was killed by three persons for allegedly having illicit relationship with a married woman, SSP, Udham Singh Nagar, Ridhim Aggarwal, said at a press conference at Kiccha on Saturday. “The three killers have been arrested and they have admitted to the crime. Charanjit, the husband of the woman, along with two others committed the crime near Pachpera village. They lured Rastogi to the place on the pretext of seeing a plot for sale,” said the SSP.

15% less snowfall:
This part of the Himalayan region has received 15 per cent less snowfall this year due to high temperatures. As a result, the deposited snow is melting while fresh snow has not occurred. An American expedition, which scaled the Nanda Devi peak last week, made this claim. “As we climbed the peak last year too, and have been organising expeditions to several peaks in this part of the Himalayan region, our study is based on our experiences,” said George, an American citizen who successfully led a five-member expedition to the 7,434-metre high peak.
