Bathinda, June 29
In a bid to resolve the dispute over the possession of a local gurdwara, the Takh Talwandi Sabo today declared two Sikhs as tankhaiya after finding them guilty of religious misconduct. The hukamnama was issued on Sunday by Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgar, the Chief of the Takht Talwandi Sabo.

Gurchet Singh Dhillon, president of the local gurdwara committee, and its member Kuldip Singh were held guilty of religious misconduct for trying to hand over the possession of the gurdwara to the Bhucho-based Dera Rumiana.

The duo had also claimed possession of the Gurdwara Shri Arjan Dev at the Barnala road in Bathinda and had hatched an agreement with the dera.

Notably, for the past six months, the local residents have been opposing the attempt of handing over the gurdwara to the dera.

Both the tankhaiya will serve for half-an-hour everyday at the Akal Takh Talwandi Sabo for a week and tear the agreement with the dera. Kuldip Singh, Majit Singh Khalsa and other residents who had lodged a complaint regarding this said, “The duo has been held guilty of religious misconduct and the matter has been decided by Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh.”

Tribune News Service

Bathinda, June 29
After a gap of five months, Bathinda residents will be able to meet the Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda for the redressal of their grievances as DC Dr Basant Garg will hold a sangat darshan for them on July 2.

It was former Bathinda DC Kamal Kishore Yadav who had started sangat darshans for the redressal of people’s grievances. Though only a few persons turned up for the first sangat darshan, the successive ones attracted a considerable number of complainants.

Just before the Lok Sabha elections, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal had begun a series of sangat darshans in the constituency. The then DC had no option but to scrap his own sangat darshan programme and attend the sangat darshans held by the Bathinda MP. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had also held a couple of sangat darshans.

After the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections was imposed, the DC had no option but to discontinue his programme. The new Deputy Commissioner will meet the public between 11 am and 2 pm at the District Administrative Complex on July 2. He requested the residents to share their problems with him.
