Rooftop spar costs youth life at Balongi village

Taps go dry before scheduled hrs

The city residents, who were already reeling under water scarcity in the peak summers, were at the receiving end of the crisis today with taps going dry almost an hour before the scheduled hours of water supply.
Bariatric surgery catching up in tricity

With the increasing acceptability of bariatric (weight-loss) surgery in the city’s premier institute, PGIMER, the demand for it is fast catching up in the tricity hospitals.
As the trend is catching up, especially among women, to get rid of flab fast, experts warn that healthy lifestyle practices are a must even after surgery to realise fitness.
A recent PGIMER study has found bariatric surgery scoring over intensive medical
treatment among obese patients.

Civil Hospital gets paediatrician
Mohali, June 7
To cater to the needs of child patients, the health authorities at the Mohali Civil Hospital, Phase VI, have made makeshift arrangements of a paediatrician here.
No paediatrician was available in the hospital for the past around one month after one child specialist had resigned from her post and the other had gone for a long holiday.
Contest Assembly poll independently, BJYM to BJP

Residents of Bhago Majra village have accused the sarpanch of encroaching upon a lane here.
In their complaint to Mohali Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu, the residents, including former sarpanch Kuldip Kaur, Harbhajan Singh, panch Avtar Singh and others, alleged that the present sarpanch, Jaswinder Singh, had encroached upon a 5’X60’ lane by constructing a roof on it. |

Foetus found in garbage
Mohali, June 7
The Mohali Police have registered a case against an unidentified person for dumping a foetus in a
pile of garbage in Phase XI here. The foetus was noticed by some passers-by, who informed the Police Control Room. According to sources, after reaching the spot, the PCR ordered the sweeper of the area to bury the foetus.
Traffic cop dies of cardiac arrest, heat blamed
Chandigarh, June 7
A Head Constable (HC) of the Chandigarh Police, posted with the traffic branch, died of heart attack today.
Head Constable Surinder Singh Dalal (46), a heart patient, was on duty outside the Hotel Taj in Sector 17 when he complained of chest pain at around 4.30 pm.
Sealing notices to eight Daria buildings
Chandigarh, June 7
After issuing notices to farm houses in Mani Majra, the Land Acquisition Officer (LAO) has issued notices to at least eight building owners in Daria village.
The buildings include two hotels. Sealing of the buildings is expected to be carried before the end of this month.
Autopsy of mishap victim done
Chandigarh, June 7
The autopsy of the 67-year-old, who died after being hit by a car, was held at the PGI today.
Om Parkash, a resident of Sector 22, was going for a morning walk when a car hit him from behind. The woman driving the car had lost control over the vehicle as one of its tyres burst.

The Chandigarh and Punjab Chapter of the Institute of Town Planners today organised a tree plantation drive at the Sector 35 office of the institute here. Gurpreet Singh, senior town planner and chairman of the Chandigarh and Punjab Chapter, said, “A number of former chief town planners, including JK Gupta, Rajender Sharma and KK Kaul, participated in the drive to plant saplings of medicinal plants.” |

Poor infrastructure plagues Sector 28
Infrastructure is in a pathetic state in Sector 28-D, Chandigarh. The pavements in the market area are disrupted, leading to unauthorised parking for the repair of vehicles. Restaurants such as Pal Dhaba and other roadside eateries are at the receiving end as dust and smoke from vehicles near the 27/28 light point enters the eating joints.

PU declares result of BCom-II

Panjab University (PU), has declared the results of BCom-II. The result would be available on PU website
http://results.puchd.ac.in/ PU Controller of Examinations Prof Parvinder Singh said 74.31 per cent students had passed the BCom-II examination. As many as 8,276 students had appeared for BCom-II and 6,150 passed the exam.
