Lok Adalat disposes of 3,291 cases

As many as 3,291 cases were disposed of during a Lok Adalat organised by the State Legal Service Authority (SLSA), Chandigarh, at the District Courts Complex, Sector 43, today.

Cases related to motor accident claims, Hindu Marriage Act, civil disputes, rent, civil appeals, compoundable criminal cases, domestic violence, banks, labour cases, traffic challans etc were settled by the 23 benches constituted for the purpose.

A SLSA press note revealed that 107 cases were settled under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act and the settled amount was Rs 11,44,000. Compensation to the tune of Rs 15,87,000 was awarded in motor accident cases.

Penalty amounting to Rs 6,23,760 was imposed and realised against 2,908 traffic challans.

Earlier, Chandigarh District and Sessions Judge SK Aggarwal along with Lal Chand, member secretary, SLSA, Chandigarh, visited the benches.

Vehicle lifters strike thrice

Three vehicle thefts have been reported from the city. Deepak, a resident of Sector 11, Panchkula, reported that someone stole his Honda Activa scooter from the parking lot of Sector 22-B.

In another case, Nandani Sharma, a resident of Pushpak Society, Sector 49, Chandigarh, reported that someone lifted her Honda Activa scooter, which was parked near a showroom at Sector 26 on the Madhya Marg.

In yet another case, Vivek Sharma, a resident of Sector 16, Panchkula, found his motorcycle missing from the Industrial Area, Phase I.

The police have booked unidentified persons in three separate cases of thefts.
