5 booked for attempting to kidnap 20-yr-old girl
Ludhiana, June 5
The police have booked five unidentified persons for attempting to kidnap a 20-year-old girl from the Kot Mangal Singh area yesterday.
The case has been registered on the complaint of girl’s father Sanjiv Kumar, a resident of the Kot Mengal Singh Main Market area.
Labourer falls off staircase, dies
Ludhiana, June 5
A mason died after falling off staircase of a house in Taj Gunj Mohalla near Division No. 3 today.
The house, where the incident took place, is being renovated. The deceased was identified as Anil Kumar (30). He was going towards the rooftop along with another labourer to inspect the work. It was learnt that Anil was feeling giddy and fell from the staircase.

Dismissal of Inspectors
Strike enters fourth day
Ludhiana, June 5
The protest against the dismissal of two Inspectors of the Food and Civil Supplies Department entered fourth day today.
Members of the Inspector 2010 Batch Union, Punjab (Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs), sat on a dharna in front of the office of the District Food and Civil Supply Controller, Ludhiana, while the routine work remained suspended.

Shiv Sena seeks Mayor’s resignation

In the absence of a proper formulation of the Punjab Outdoor Advertising Policy 2013, the advertisement row in the city refuses to settle down. The Shiv Sena unit today organised a dharna near Gunda Nullah demanding “punishment” for those involved in the advertising scam.

City chemists shut shops
Ludhiana, June 5
Local chemists today shut their shops for four hours from 1 pm onwards. They were protesting against the rise in the number of raids at their shops as part of the ongoing drive against drugs.
The Retail Chemist Association of Ludhiana president, Aman, said: “The police have been harassing us unnecessarily. We already have officials from a number of other departments who keep conducting raids at our shops.

Brick kiln owners to cease operations

Brick kilns in Ludhiana have decided to shut operations for an indefinite period from June 20. The move is in protest of the mandatory environment clearance.
