Goods worth lakhs were destroyed when a fire broke out in a Canter parked at a factory and later spread to a nearby factory in the Industrial Area, Phase I, here this morning. As it was a holiday being a Sunday, no one was injured in the incident.

After facing embarrassment due to the shortage of smart cards for registration certificates
(RCs) and driving licences (DLs) in the recent past, the Registering and Licensing Authority
(RLA) has now decided to replace the Society for Promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC) that currently provides the smart card, by the National Informatics Centre
(NIC) that will be providing the smart card at much lower rates.
