Abohar
Electronics shop gutted:
An electronics shop in Sriganganagar, 40 km from here in Rajasthan, was gutted on Saturday. The fire reportedly broke out due to sparking in a transmission line. The shop owner, Ravi Chalana, said the electricity pole was less than 3 ft from his showroom. He had repeatedly requesting the electricity board to shift the pole, but to no avail. Earlier, two persons had died of shocks from the electricity pole during rain, he said.

Blood camps organised:The Tapovan Blood Bank teams collected 141 units of blood at camps at Brahmin Samaj in Hanumangarh and Sriganganagar districts of Rajasthan as part of Parshuram Jyanti celebrations on Sunday.

Phagwara
Woman killed in mishap:A woman was killed when the motorcycle, which her son was driving, was hit by a car on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Kaushalia Devi of Phagwara. Her son, Rajesh Kumar, was injured critically. The police have registered case and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination.

Lovers commit suicide: A woman and her lover allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a train near Goraya on Saturday. The victims have been identified as Nirmal Devi and Roshan Lal, both residents of Kahna-Dhesian village. GRP in charge Vijay Kumar said they had handed over the bodies to the respective families after a post-mortem. A case has been registered.

7 hurt in firing:
Seven persons were injured in a firing incident at Kirrian village near here on Saturday. The incident took place over harvesting of wheat crop at a disputed land. Sources said five of the accused had been identified as Daler Singh, Gurmej Singh, Dilbag Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Mangal Singh while 15 others were yet to be named.

Gold contest held: A radio channel, 92.7 Big FM, conducted “Oh My Gold” contest to celebrate Akshaya Tritiya. The grand finale was held at Silverlines Jewellery store. A listener won 10 gm gold in the contest. Around 50 women participated in the event.
