Pay for misuse of water
Chandigarh, April 14
From tomorrow onwards, city residents who are caught wasting potable water by watering lawns, washing cars and courtyards during the morning hours will be challaned and fined Rs 2,000 by the municipal corporation (MC). Repeated violations will invite strict action and the water connection of such violators will be disconnected.

Man arrested for attempt to rape 5-year-old girl
Chandigarh, April 14
The police have arrested a 30-year-old man for attempting to rape a five-year-old girl by taking her under a parked Bolero jeep in Badheri in Sector 41. The accused, Nizammudin, a resident of Maloya, is a drug addict and was not in his senses when he was nabbed.

Accused BTech student held; probe raises eyebrows

After a lapse of over 48 hours, the UT police finally arrested the accused, Satyajot Singh, a BTech student, in the hit-and-run case which snuffed out the life of a young IAS aspirant, Sujata Sharma, in Sector 49 on Friday night. Serious question marks are being raised over the "shoddy police investigation" as it wasted crucial time in arresting the accused.

A gold chain of a 75-year-old woman was snatched this morning by two unidentified snatchers, leaving the woman badly injured. The victim, Bimla, a resident of Sector 4, was walking with her friend Vinod Ahuja (70) when the incident took place. Elderly women have been a target of snatchers in Panchkula for a long time.
