Abohar

2 bodies found in canals: The police on Monday recovered a body from Malukpura canal near Diwankhera village on the Abohar-Sriganganagar road. The deceased has been identified as a Delhi-based waiter, Puneet. He was a native of Uttar Pradesh. Another body was found near Usmankhera village from the tail-end of the canal system. The deceased could not be identified.

Drug peddlers nabbed: The police on Monday seized 144 gm of smack and 65 kg of poppy husk smuggled from Rajasthan. Sukhdev Singh, Raj Singh, Kashmir Singh, Janak Singh and their accomplices were arrested.

Ex- Delhi Mayor campaigns for Jaitley: Former Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra called upon women in the city to vote for SAD-BJP candidate Arun Jaitley. She said BJP-Narendra Modi would introduce many schemes for women empowerment if voted to power.

2 bodies found from canal: The bodies of two missing persons were taken out by the police from the Bhakra mainline canal near Khanauri village in Sirhind on Monday. The victims have been identified as Bali (30) of Madrasi Colony and Sukhwant Kaur (25) of Rampur Doraha village.

Illegally held liquor seized

The police arrested a man and seized 3 lakh milliliters of illegally held liquor from him. The accused, Surinder Singh, is of Johlan village. In another case, the police seized 35 bottles of liquor stored illegally by Varinder Singh of Koi village at his home.

Jalandhar

Patwari booked for fraud: Patwari Bintoo Lal has been suspended for his alleged involvement in tampering revenue records pertaining to 40 acres of government land at Saidpur Kalan village. An inquiry report said Lal committed the offence to benefit 32 individuals by effecting illegal entries in jamabandi and khasra columns of the revenue record of 2006-07. The police have registered a case against all these persons, including the patwari.

Phagwara

2 cops injured: Two policemen were injured when their vehicle rammed into a stationary truck near Sugar Mills Crossing on the national highway in Phagwara on Monday. The victims, Pargan singh of Apra village and Iqbal Singh of Paddi-Jagir village were admitted to the local  Civil Hospital.

Sangrur

Protest by villagers: Villagers, including women, from the nearby Ballian village held a protest in Sangrur on Monday and blocked the main road for five hours. They were led by village sarpanch Raghbir Singh. He demanded that the police initiated action against a resident of his village for caste remarks. He said the said person had blessings of Akali leaders who were not allowing the police to take action against him.
