An IT professional from Ahmedabad, 37-year-old Mehul Pathak’s passion for kites has earned him recognition globally. Pathak, who started kite-flying as a hobby in 2008, has flown kites with internationally acclaimed kite-flyers in foreign countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Dubai, Australia, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

PAU panel to probe assault on student

A day after five “tipsy” students were booked for attacking an MSc-I student of Punjab Agricultural University, the city police have launched a manhunt to arrest them. Besides, the PAU authorities have formed a disciplinary committee to probe the incident.

The police has booked some unknown persons under relevant sections of the Defacement of Public Property Act, 1997, for allegedly defacing the premises of government institutes and private establishments, including shops and houses.

This year, the number of candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections has gone down. Twenty-two candidates are in the fray. Of them, 10 are Independent candidates while in the 2009 elections, there were 30 candidates. Of them 19 were Independents.

Fire brigade needs upgrade
There are only 60 firefighters for a population of over 16 lakh in Ludhiana.Ludhiana, April 13
The fire brigade is one of the most neglected department's of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. Forty-two firemen, eight drivers, four leading firemen, four sub-fire officers, one fire station officer and one Assistant Divisional Fire Officer cater to the population of more than16 lakh.

Parents continue hunger strike

A body of parents whose children are studying in some city-based private schools continued their chain hunger strike for the second day at Jagraon Bridge. The parents want the district administration to take action against those schools that are not following the Right to Education Act and are flouting the Central Board of Secondary Education rules.
