Teacher ends her life; in-laws booked
Lalru, March 25
Rupinderjit Kaur, the victim A 31-year-old government schoolteacher, a resident of Sardarpura Colony, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself last night. The police have booked victim Rupinderjit Kaur’s husband Kulwinder Singh and her in-laws, including mother-in-law Sheela Kaur, brother-in-law Trilok Singh and sister-in-law Jasbir.

Minor’s Rape
Convict’s birth certificate comes under the scanner
Panchkula, March 25
In the case pertaining to the rape of a 13-year-old girl, who got pregnant, the age proof of the convict, Saajan, came under the scanner when doctors at the General Hospital, who conducted his medical examination today, told the court that he was aged between 21 and 23 years, and was not a minor. Saajan had requested the court to give him punishment under the Juvenile Act claiming that he was a minor.

Class IV employees seek regularisation of services
Chandigarh, March 25
The Class IV Employees Union of Education Department held a protest at Sector 20 Majid Ground. They demanded regularisation of their jobs and said if their demands were not included in the manifestos of the contesting parties for the Lok Sabha elections, they would not cast their vote.

Review syllabi of PU courses: Students
Chandigarh, March 25
Panjab University has to upgrade syllabus of all its courses which have not been reviewed for a decade. The Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) and the National Students’ Union of India NSUI today submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover in which they have sought constitution of a special committee to review the syllabus of all courses.

A thyroid test of a mere Rs 100 in newborns could save them from the risk of mental retardation. But, testing congenital hypothyroidism was not mandatory as yet for health centres providing maternity care in the country, said experts while addressing mediapersons here today.

2 killed in accidents
Kharar, March 25
Two persons including an elderly woman died in road accidents here today. In the first incident, an elderly woman, identified as Mohinder Kaur, breathed her last near The North Country Mall, when an auto rickshaw (PB-65E-9277), reportedly, hit the Activa scooter on which she was riding pillion with her husband Jaswant Singh. The victim died on the spot, while Jaswant Singh sustained minor injuries.

Man commits suicide
Kalka, March 25
A 50-year-old retired CRPF employee committed suicide by hanging himself with a fan today. The deceased has been identified as Mukhtiar Veg Mirja, a resident of Dharampur Colony, Pinjore.

Corruption case
Arrest warrants issued against complainant

Chandigarh, March 25
The CBI court today issued arrest warrants against the complainant in the five-year corruption case registered against former NCB zonal director SK Sekhri. The court issued arrest warrants against Rajesh Dua, and directed the CBI to produce him before the court on April 11, which is the next date of the hearing of the case.

2 acquitted in PU brawl case
Chandigarh, March 25
A local court today acquitted two former PU students, including an ex-student leader, in an attempt to murder case. It acquitted Amandeep Singh Multani, the former student leader, and his accomplice Barinder Dhillon in the case that was registered in 2007.

Three held for clash at BJP office
Chandigarh, March 25
A day after the clash at the BJP office here, the police today arrested three persons. Mukesh Rai, a block president of the BJP in Mauli Jagran, his brother Pawan Kumar and an associate Chandan, have been arrested for attacking the state convener of the party’s colony cell, Anil Dube, inside the party’s office ‘Kamlam’ in Sector 33 here.
