Corruption case
Saji Mohan convicted
Quantum of sentence for IPS officer to be pronounced on March 7

Chandigarh, March 4
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Nazar Singh today convicted 1995-batch IPS officer Saji Mohan of embezzling Rs 13.8 lakh during his tenure as the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Director here. The court convicted Saji Mohan in a case of corruption, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy under Sections 409 and 120-B of the IPC, and under Section 13 (1d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on March 7.

Jyoti murder case: Laboratory report on tyre adds to Doon MLA’s troubles
Panchkula, March 4
In yet another trouble for Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary and his aides in the Jyoti murder case, the report (a copy of which is with Chandigarh Tribune) from the Shriram Scientific and Industrial Research Foundation in Delhi has confirmed that the ashes of the tyre allegedly used to crush the victim was of a heavy vehicle.

Admn gets month to decide on removal

The barricades outside the Punjab Chief Minister’s residence in Sector 2, Chandigarh The Punjab and Haryana High Court has set a month’s deadline for the Chandigarh Administration to take a decision on removing the barricades on the road in front of the Punjab Chief Minister’s house. The barricades were set up during the days of militancy to prevent vehicles from entering the area around the Chief Minister’s house from Sector 12 and the Nayagaon side. As of now, only cycles can pass through the barricades.

Post-delivery, special ambulance service for women in Panchkula
panchkula, March 4
The ambulance service has been launched for the convenience of women. In good news for women who have just delivered, a special ambulance has been started at the General Hospital, Sector 6, for their convenience. Now, transportation facility will be provided to the woman and her newborn post delivery. The service— which forms part of the Referral Transport Scheme— was launched at the General Hospital by Civil Surgeon Dr VK Bansal.

City crime graph down 14%, claim Chandigarh Police
Chandigarh, March 4
Crime-related incidents registered a decrease of 14 per cent during the second month of this year compared to February 2013. This was stated by the Chandigarh Police while releasing the crime data today.

Now, video guide to fill forms online

Prof Tankeshwar Kumar, Director, Computer Centre, Panjab University, launches the audio-visual admission support online. Now, the Panjab University (PU) website will guide candidates how to fill the application form for entrance tests. The university has initiated a pilot project for guiding candidates through videos for filling the online forms for BSc (Hospitality and Hotel Administration) and BSc (Tourism Management) courses of the University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism (UIHMT).

23-yr-old convicted of wife’s murder

A 23-year-old man has been convicted for murdering his wife. The Court of District and Sessions Judge SK Aggarwal today convicted Vikram, a resident of Jind, Haryana, under Section 302 of the IPC. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on March 6.
