Bizman's workers robbed of Rs 7.69 cr near Metro station
New Delhi, January 28 The employees worked for the Gurgaon-based businessman named Rahul Ahuja. The money that the robbers stole was being taken by Ahuja's employees, including a driver and a person named Subodh, in the car to be deposited at a bank in Karol Bagh. The robbers who numbered from six to seven people fled with the car and later abandoned it at Barapullah in South Delhi. The culprits had used a silver-coloured Wagon-R and a Hyundai Verna to commit the crime. The Wagon-R car, moving in front of the Honda City and was used to obstruct its path, was found abandoned at the scene of the crime. The site of the incident is a few hundred metres from the Lajpat Nagar Metro station. The white Verna which was trailing behind the Honda City was abandoned near the Moolchand flyover. Sources claimed that the Verna and Wagon-R were stolen by the robbers from Delhi. The Wagon-R car reportedly belongs to an employee of the Deccan Herald, a newspaper. To probe whether an insider is involved in the crime, the police are examining the Call Detail Records of the mobile phone numbers of the people close to the victims. "We have clues to the incident," said a senior police officer. According to the police, at about 9 am today, Ahuja’s employees, including his staff and a driver, were heading towards Karol Bagh. When they reached the BRT corridor near the Lajpat Nagar Metro station, the Wagon R car overtook them. It suddenly applied brake, causing the Honda City to ram into its rear part. An argument took place between the occupants of the Honda City and the single occupant of the Wagon-R. Meanwhile, the Verna car halted a few metres behind the Honda City. Close to six people were sitting inside it. They came out of the vehicle, armed and trained their guns at Ahuja’s employees. The robbers quickly entered the Honda City and fled with it, leaving his employees at the crime scene. "They had stolen Rs 7.69 crore," said the officer. Investigators are probing if hawala money was involved. The police control room received two calls about the incident from two mobile phone numbers. The police reached the crime scene, where the Wagon-R car was abandoned. The car's windshield had a sticker of the Deccan Herald newspaper. The car has an Uttar Pradesh number plate. |
Cabinet okays CAG audit of DIMTS
New Delhi, January 28 Discussion on the Jan Lokpal Bill was also held and the government is expected to finalise its draft soon. "The draft bill is being given final touches and will be circulated among the ministries soon so that the Cabinet can take a final view on it," said a senior government official. The Cabinet also endorsed the setting up of a high-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary to recommend concrete measures for establishing Mahila Suraksha Dals (MSDs) across the city. This committee will have a Principal Secretary, Home; Director General, Home Guards; and Director of Women and Child Development as its members and it can induct more members if need be. The committee will submit its report by February 15 and recommend how the MSDs can be formed. "The committee has been asked to work out the modalities for the recruitment of retired Army personnel who would be able to assist the Home Guards in this important work. It is being made clear that this women security force will have no police powers and will be set up with the sole purpose of ensuring the safety and security of women," the official said. Another committee was approved today headed by the Chief Secretary S.K. Srivastava to resolve the issue of temporary, contractual and casual employees in all departments, offices and autonomous bodies under its control. The committee will submit its report within one month. It will have five members: Prakash Chander (retired IAS); Dr MM Kutty, Finance Secretary; AS Yadav, Law Secretary; Arun Baroka, Principal Secretary (PWD); and Piyush Sharma, Additional Commissioner, Labour. The committee will also have seven co-opted members. It will conduct a detailed study on the number of employees recruited on temporary, contractual and casual basis, the status of the recruitment process, legal, technical and financial aspects of giving preference to the existing employees, etc. "The government wants them to be made permanent, but there is a process which can't be bypassed. A committee has been formed. They will work in a timebound manner. No employee will be removed till then," said Education Minister Manish Sisodia. |
Vardhan 'nails Kejriwal’s 30 lies' in one month
New Delhi, January 28 According to Vardhan, there are 30 main lies of the Chief Minister and he has highlighted them so that the citizens of Delhi in particular and the country in general, understand the wide difference in the promised commitments and the actions of the AAP. On the very first day when Kejriwal took oath of office and secrecy, it was evident that his display of being a common man was nothing but a sham. The very first day he breached the Metro security rules by allowing the video recordings of his travel and thereby disrupting the schedule of other passengers, Vardhan said. Addressing a press conference, Vardhan said that Kejriwal had promised not to take security cover. But on December 28 last year, the police force was put on alert to provide him security at Ramlila Maidan where he and his ministers took their oath. It was promised that special commando forces would be put in place for women's security in Delhi. Setting up the fast track courts was also promised for a quick hearing of crime against women. Nothing to this effect has been done so far. |
BJP to give memo to LG for Law Minister’s sack
New Delhi, January 28 The march will be led by the leader of the opposition in Delhi Legislative Assembly, Dr Harsh Vardhan. Yesterday the BJP MLAs sat on dharna outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's office on the same issue. A senior BJP leader said that instead of concentrating on development works, the Aam Aadmi Party leaders have kept themselves busy in other issues for hogging the media limelight. They are doing it keeping in view the parliamentary elections. The Law Minister along with his supporters tried to force the police to register cases against African women on alleged charges of prostitution without any evidence. The leader said getting a case registered against someone was not the job of a minister. Investigation is conducted by the police and then some action is taken. The minister just informs the agency concerned. Instead of taking action against the Law Minister Somnath Bharti, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal supported him by staging a protest at Rail Bhawan, violating the constitutional norms, the senior BJP leader added. |

RTE ignorance keeps poor kids out of pvt schools: Survey
New Delhi, January 28 The main reason for the above was a lack of awareness among parents about the Right to Education Act, which stipulates that private schools shall reserve 25 per cent of their seats at the entry level for children belonging to 'disadvantaged groups' and 'weaker sections', found the survey which was conducted last year in November by NGO Indus Action. According to the survey, only 3 per cent of the parents were aware of the provisions of the RTE Act, 2009. The NGO today held a workshop for 70 AAP volunteers from across Delhi as part of the party's initiative to identify families from the economically weaker sections (EWS) and inform them about the RTE Act. The NGO also provided training on how to approach schools seeking entrance with nursery and school admissions currently underway in the city. "Lack of awareness about the law and difficulty in obtaining the necessary certificates from government authorities are the major roadblocks due to which around 1.5 lakh children struggle to get admission in private schools every year," said programme manager Aniket Doegar of Indus Action. Even if some families manage to overcome the above hurdles, the schools refuse to accept their forms, which is again against the law, Doegar added. According to the Delhi government's education coordinator, Amit Mishra, the initiative has been taken to help children belonging to EWS get admission in recognised private schools. "As per the initiative, these volunteers will go from door to door and educate EWS families on how to use the provisions of the RTE Act" to ensure that the underprivileged children get admission in private schools, Mishra
said. — PTI |
