Anger as woman dies after surgery
Sirsa, September 21 Seema (27) of Gidranwali village of Sirsa underwent tubectomy in the hospital on June 7. Her husband Sukhdev alleged that when his wife’s internal bleeding did not stop, he brought her to General Hospital again on June 8. When her condition did not improve, doctors referred her to PGIMS, Rohtak, where she remained there till August 21 without much improvement. He alleged that the doctors, who attended on his wife in the PGIMS, informed him that due to the negligence of the surgeon at Sirsa, her blood vessel had been ruptured. He said the doctors sent them back to General Hospital, Sirsa, on August 21, who again referred her to Maharaja Agarsen Medical College, Agroha
(Hisar), on August 22. However, doctors at Agroha sent her back to General Hospital,
Sirsa, on August 28, where she died last night. Demanding the arrest of the surgeon, who conducted tubectomy operation
on the woman, angry relatives created a ruckus in the hospital, locked its main gate and
blocked vehicular traffic outside it. The police had to open Circular Road of the town for heavy vehicles, though it was closed for such vehicles some time back. The relatives refused to accept Seema’s body till the doctor was arrested and booked. The authorities later persuaded them to let the postmortem of the woman conducted at PGIMS, Rohtak, and if any negligence was found, the authorities would take action. Civil Surgeon Dr Surender Nain maintained that had there been any negligence on the part of the doctor, the woman would have died within days of the surgery. He, however, said he would constitute a medical board for ascertaining medical negligence, if he received any such communication from the police. |
Quota for poor: MLA asks Oppn to clarify stand
Sadhoura (Yamunanagar), September 21 Facing criticism from leaders of the opposition parties, who termed the move a “political stunt” aimed at gaining political mileage, Sharma said these leaders should clarify their stance whether they were in favour or against the move. He said the fact that the leaders of the INLD, the HJC and the BJP were raising fingers against the proposal showed their inclination against the poor. He said it was only the Congress, which had been concerned about the welfare of all sections of society. Addressing a gathering at the old vegetable market, Sharma said political interference had already seen the project for the Industrial Model Township (IMT) for Ambala getting scuttled, which could have provided jobs to more than one lakh youth of the region. Defending the state government against the allegation of disparity in development, the MLA said there was no dearth of funds for development, but it was the vested interest of some of the local leaders who had been working against the interest of the people due to which development in certain districts of the state had taken a back seat. He said the government was considering the demands of the locals and an all-out effort would be put in place to ensure development. |

Cotton arrival picks up in Jind
Jind, September 21 “We are getting more than Rs 5,000 per quintal this year, which is higher than the rate of Rs 4,400-4,500 fetched last year,” said Om Prakash, a farmer from Uchana block in the district. He said the production of the crop had also improved this year in comparison to the past couple of years and due to good quality of the crop, the farmers were getting higher prices of their produce. Echoing similar sentiments, Ranbir Singh, another farmer, said, “Good prices this year have been a cause of some satisfaction for the growers as the input costs have gone up in the past few years.” He said favourable weather conditions and no major natural calamity had resulted in higher production of the crop in the region, especially in the Uchana block. Uchana Market Committee Secretary Pawan Chopra said arrival and procurement of the crop at Uchana mandi had been much higher this time in comparison to the past year. Over 770 quintals of the crop had arrived so far against just two or three quintals in the corresponding period last year, he added. While the arrival of the crop at Jind mandi crossed 1,300 quintals on Saturday, sources said the production and arrival of the crop in the Jind area (market) was likely to remain low mainly due to pest attacks and excess rain that left the fields in several villages flooded. However, sources in the department concerned revealed certain alleged irregularities in the procurement process of the crop in various markets. They alleged that certain buyers purchase the crop in such a manner to evade market fee, HRDF fee and VAT through backdoor transactions. The total arrival and procurement of the crop here had been several times more than what was shown officially in the records, they said. |
