Modi to sound poll bugle today
BJP says many retired Generals to attend rally in Rewari
Tribune News Service

Gurgaon, September 14
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who has been made the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, will launch the election campaign at a rally in Rewari tomorrow.

With the nation talking about an imminent clash between Rahul Gandhi and Modi in the General Election, the saffron party’s newly crowned leader is likely to put his model of governance before the people even though the rally is being held under the aegis of the party’s ex-servicemen wing.

Nonetheless, Modi, who has remained in charge of Haryana affairs in the BJP organisation, has carefully chosen Rewari, the capital of the Ahirwal belt, as the venue of the rally.

The facts that Haryana is a major contributor to the country’s armed forces and that a majority of the state’s serving as well as retired soldiers belong to the south Haryana region substantiate the decision.

In order to underscore the point, Modi will be flanked by a posse of former senior Defence officers. Around 20 former General-ranked officers, apart from nearly 200 former commanding officers, are likely to attend the event.

If fact, a separate stage has been built for seating the senior Defence officers, in addition to the main stage. A third stage has been built to accommodate leaders of the BJP and its alliance partners.

Hisar, September 14
The district administration has served a notice on the Rani Sati Dadi Trust which plans to construct a grand Sati temple in Sector 16-17 in the town by replacing the existing temple.

The administration had directed the trust to submit its reply by September 19 on the objections by the social groups. They had demanded that the proposal to construct temple should be scrapped by the administration which was in contravention of the anti-Sati law in the country.

Deputy Commissioner ML Kaushik, on getting the complaint, has marked an inquiry to be conducted by JK Abhir, Hisar SDM, into the controversy surrounding the Sati temple after two BJP ministers from Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh laid the foundation stone for the temple last week.

Confirming that they had served the notice on the trust, the SDM said, "We will also call the trust office-bearers and social activists on September 19 to seek their views to resolve the row. I have also visited the site where the foundation stone was laid but no further construction work has begun", he said.

Trust member Pyare Lal reiterated that the objections being raised by certain organisations were uncalled for while denying that any kind of Sati rituals were performed at the temple. "We have received the notice and are preparing to file a reply. I hope that the district administration will allow construction of the temple as there is nothing objectionable in reconstruction of the existing temple", he stated.
