New Delhi, September 21
Heavy rain cooled the city today, providing the much-needed relief to Delhiites. The national Capital is likely to have thundershowers tomorrow also.
According to the meteorological department, the maximum temperature tomorrow will be 35 degree Celsius, while the minimum will be 25 degree Celsius.

"There will be cloudy skies tomorrow and rain or thundershowers could occur in some areas," said a Met department official.

Delhi and the national capital region received 22.2 millimetres of rainfall today. The maximum temperature was 34 degree Celsius and the minimum 24.9 degree Celsius.

Due to the rainfall, traffic movement was slow in some areas. "There was a little waterlogging at the base of flyovers in Punjabi Bagh, Dhaula Kuan, Moolchand and parts of Aurobindo Marg. Although the waterlogging had slowed down the traffic movement, there were no traffic diversions," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla.

Three civic bodies, the north, east and south corporations, however, said that there were no complaints of waterlogging. The areas of Civil Lines Narela, Karol Bagh and Rohini fall under the north corporation. There was a complaint of a tree having fallen at a market in Patel Nagar during the rains today. "However, there were no complaints of anybody being hurt," said a corporation official.

The area of Shahdara falls under the east corporation. The south corporation that looks after the areas of Najafgarh and central, south and west zones had a complaint of a tree having fallen in South Extension Part-1. Two persons, including a retired government schoolteacher, allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in Delhi today.
In the first incident, government schoolteacher (Retd) Madan Mohan (62) allegedly committed suicide at home in Moti Nagar, west Delhi. His daughter saw him hanging from a ceiling fan about 4 pm today.

Mohan's family told the police that Madan had not been well because of which he was depressed.

"Mohan took his life when his wife left for a nearby market in the afternoon," a police officer said. His daughter came home after a while and found the main door of the house unlocked. She then saw Mohan hanging from a ceiling fan in a bedroom.

She immediately informed her neighbours, but Mohan was dead on the spot, according to the officer.

Neighbours informed the police and the house was searched, but no suicide note was found. The body was returned to his family after postmortem at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in west Delhi.

The police have questioned his family and friends and ruled out any foul play.

In the second incident, a 20-year-old management student identified as Arun Kumar Lohia, allegedly committed suicide at his rented house in Ghitorni, south Delhi. A suicide note, purportedly written by Lohia, read that he apologized to his family. He appealed to his family to forgive him for his act. Global conference on mysticism over
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 21
The 21st Global Conference on Mysticism (September 13-21) held under the presidentship of Sant Rajinder Singh today concluded successfully at Sant Darshan Singh Dham, Burari.

Various sessions were attended by religious leaders, besides the occasion saw participation from Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel and former mayor Aarti Mehra, who praised Sant Rajinder Singh's efforts in the field of spirituality.

"Sant Rajinder Singh is an embodiment of love and through his teachings, we will attain inner peace. This is a common platform for people from all the religions where everone sits and understands each other," said Goel.

Addressing a large gathering of more than one lakh people from different parts of the world, Sant Rajinder Singh stated that from the birth we live in this world through our outer senses. In our daily activities we are analysing everything at the level of mind but when we go to the lotus feet of a perfect master, we realise that we are not merely body, mind or intellect. We are a soul which is part of God and the way back to God is also through love. Only when we attain inner peace through meditation we find that God is present in all human beings.

Pir khawaja Ahmed Zamin Nizami conveyed his felicitation to Sant Rajinder Singh on his birthday followed by shahi imam Dr. Maulvi Mufti Mukaram Ahmed of Fatehpuri Masjid, Delhi, emphasised the need of spirituality to lead a peaceful life in this materialistic world.

Trade licences in corporation areas abolished
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 21
A day after assurances to the trading community, Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel today announced the abolition of trade licences in the South, East and North Municipal Corporation areas.

The party has also assured that it would make the procedure for the filing of VAT returns simple once it comes to power.

Ahead of the assembly elections, the party also takes up the issue of Lal Dora through its 'village-to-village contact' programme in an attempt to woo the residents of the nearly 360 villages with the promise that it would ameliorate their problems once it is voted to power.

"The issue related to Lal Dora will be settled permanently by the BJP when it comes to power. The extended Lal Dora will be declared Lal Dora area. All the business and residential establishments in the villages will be regularised," said Goel during its 'Gaon-Gaon Sampark' yatra in Bapraula, Bakkarwala, Kotla, Ranhaula, Burela and Hastsal today.

He said that instead of trade licences, the traders will now fill up a Trader Information Form supported by an affidavit once in five years and this move, according to him, will free the traders from the 'inspector raj' of the Delhi Government.

The idea is to better connect with the people living in the villages as more than 360 villages in Delhi have been neglected. There are no proper roads and sewers. The availability of drinking water is poor while erratic power supply only compounds the problems of these villages, Goel said.

Addressing people in villages, he said, "Solving the problems of villages and people living in those areas will be the priority of the BJP.”

He lashed the Sheila Dikshit-led government, saying that Lal Dora has not been extended in the last 15 years under the Congress government, which promised in its manifesto that it would bring amendment to the land reforms law.

AAP plans different manifestos for 70 seats
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 21
In view of the Delhi Assembly elections, while both the Congress and the BJP are busy with the usual manner of wooing the electorate, the Aam Aadmi Party has adopted a novel process of finalising the party's manifestos by reaching out to people.

The party plans to create 70 different manifestos for 70 assembly seats in Delhi along with a main manifesto for the national Capital. For this, the AAP has started doing 'nukkad sabhas' and also going door-to-door, asking people about the issues that they think should be included in the manifestos.

The process has already been started in the New Delhi assembly seat from where Arvind Kejriwal would contest elections against the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. In the Phase 1, around 32 meetings have been planned in the assembly.

"The response so far has been overwhelming with people coming forth in large numbers to share the local problems that they face in their locality on a daily basis. In a meeting held yesterday at Kali Bari Marg, more than 200 people participated and discussed their manifesto," said the party spokesperson.

After this, this process would begin in Patparganj segment from tomorrow.

"Democracy should be 'by the people, for the people, of the people'. Unfortunately, in today's time, the duty of a common man has been reduced to voting once in five years. After elections, people are made to run from pillar to post for getting even the basic issues sorted out. This would change only when people start participating in democracy. The Aam Aadmi Party wishes to encourage people to take part in democracy; one of the ways for doing so is by involving people in the manifesto-making process," said the candidate from Patparganj, Manish Sisodia.
