A deputation of Master Cadre Union (MCU) led by state president, Gurpreet Singh Riar, met Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh, today, to discuss the memorandum submitted by the MCU.

2 booked in cheating case
Phagwara, August 21
The Police has booked three travel agents identified as Ashok Kumar, his Wife Baljit Kaur of Jalandhar and Jagroop Singh of Baba Bakala for duping two youths Jaswinder Kumar of Palahai Gate and Gaurav Kumar of Sugar Mills Colony, Phagwara of Rs 4.70 lakhs on the pretext of sending them abroad.

Three booked for dowry
Tarn Taran, August 21
The police has booked Rohit and his parents for allegedly demanding dowry from his wife. Rohit, his father Rakesh Kumar and mother Parween Jyoti have been booked under various sections of the IPC. 

Midwife booked
Tarn Taran, August 21
Kashmir Kaur, a midwife belonging to Heerapur village, was booked for trying to abort the foetus of a woman.The accused has been booked under Sections 3,4 and 5 of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act.

Salaries to be released soon: Dhindsa

Nawanshahr, August 21
A deputation of Master Cadre Union (MCU) led by state president, Gurpreet Singh Riar, met Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh, today, to discuss the memorandum submitted by the MCU.

Finance Minister has assured the delegation that the salaries of the school teachers would be released shortly. Besides, he also responded positively towards the other financial demands of the union. Giving details, Harminder Singh Uppal, senior vice president of MCU, said the senior officials of the Finance Department were also present on the occasion.

Besides the financial demands given in the demand charter, the issue of imposing unannounced ban on clearing salary bills from the treasuries despite issuing sanctions was raised and the demand for ensuing regular payment of salaries and grade pay protection was discussed. The issue of clearing Assured Career Progression after 4-9-14 years of service was discussed in detail. The Finance Minister gave a patient hearing to the demands of the MCU and his response was positive towards the genuine demands of the MCU, he added.

The police said the complainants Jaswinder and Gaurav made a deal with the accused for Rs 6.50 lakhs for each person. Jaswinder gave Rs 1.77 lakh and Gaurav Rs 2.93 lakh as advance to the accused last year. But neither of them was sent abroad nor did the accused return their money. A case was registered under Section 420 of the IPC. — OC

 Three booked for dowry

The police has booked Rohit and his parents for allegedly demanding dowry from his wife. Rohit, his father Rakesh Kumar and mother Parween Jyoti have been booked under various sections of the IPC. 

The case was registered on the complaint of Upma Sharma wife of accused Rohit. She was married to the accused about seven years back. In her complaint she alleged that the accused had been harassing her for dowry. She said Rohit after beating her on the instigation of his parents threw her out from house on August, 12. A case was registered under Sections 498-A,323 and 120-B of the IPC.

Two booked for snatching

Devinder Singh of Shahbazpur village and his associate Shakti Singh of Mammanke village in the district have been booked by the local police for snatching a purse from a woman three days back. The victim, Narinder Kaur, was coming back to her home at Bahamaniwala village, along with her brother, from Patti when the accused threatened her with a knife and snatched her purse. The accused were identified by Joginder Singh, brother of Narinder Kaur. Further investigations in the case are under progress, the police said.

  Midwife booked

Tarn Taran, August 21
Kashmir Kaur, a midwife belonging to Heerapur village, was booked for trying to abort the foetus of a woman.The accused has been booked under Sections 3,4 and 5 of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act. 

The police said the accused made a failed attempt to terminate the foetus of Sukhwinder Kaur (30) of Panjwar village about four months back. Sukhwinder was four-month pregnant at that time, the police added. — OC
