No transport facility for HBT staff at GMCH-32
Chandigarh, July 11
Even as the project on home-based treatment (HBT) for mentally ill patients at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, started two months ago and gained popularity, it is becoming difficult for the project to sustain on its own. No transport facility is provided to volunteers, who have to go from home to home, to cater to the needs of patients.

NHRC asks UT to submit action taken report
Chandigarh, July 11
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has registered the complaint in the PGI ‘fake shunt’ case which allegedly resulted in the death of Gurjot, a four-month-old baby. The Commission today directed the Director, Health and Family Welfare, Chandigarh, to file an action taken report within six weeks.

CAT stays recruitment of drivers

PU canteens to be closed by 6.30 pm
Chandigarh, July 11
Keeping in view the upcoming student elections, the PU authorities have decided to shut the department canteens by 6.30 pm only based on the observation of the Chandigarh Police that had stated that the student parties used to hold meetings at these canteens.

Chargesheet filed in SBI manager’s suicide case

The UT police today filed a chargesheet in the court against four persons in a suicide case of a 53-year-old assistant manager with the State Bank of India, (SBI) who hung himself to death in March this year.

In the case involving acquisition of Gurdwara Amb Sahib land by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) at Saini Majra village, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to Punjab Government through secretary, housing and urban development, PUDA, GMADA and Land Acquisition Collector to file their reply in the next hearing on August 19.

A 34-year-old woman today allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her rented residence at Sector 70.
