Kapurthala/Phagwara, July 3
While romantic comedies (rom-coms) are clearly the flavour of the season in the Punjabi film industry, another ambitious directorial venture seems all set to rake in some big moolah by jumping onto the hit bandwagon of rib-tickling Punjabi comedies. But at least by the looks of it, the newest offering shows some great promise.

While undertaking a whirlwind tour of Amritsar, Pathankot , Mukerian, Hoshairpur and Jalandhar to promote PTC Motion Pictures forthcoming movie Fer Mamla Gadbad Gadbad and creating positive vibes about the movie in these towns with the fans, the star cast of the movie regaled their fans and other people at historical city of Kapurthala and Phagwara today. They interacted with the people at various places in the city and shared their side of the story about what is different and great about this fresh and new love story.

EARLIER STORIES

Later they held a press conference for interacting with media fraternity of the town at Jagat Jeet Multiplex, Kapurthala and Elite Theatre, Phagwara.

Lead actors Roshan Prince, Japji Khera and Bhanushree Mehra said the film was a typical masala offering bringing the best of - the rural and the urban flavours - of Punjab in a quirky love story. Sharing details about his character, male lead Roshan Prince, said his character Jassi is an aspiring actor, who likes taking shortcuts in life. The film is all about the mess he makes and the trouble he manages to get in while trying to achieve his dream and winning the admiration of his lady love.

The female leads - Japji Khera (former Miss Punjaban), plays a Punjab di Kudi, who wants to be a heroine, and Bhanushree Mehra (Southern siren making her maiden Pollywood outing), plays doctor Roop. Both vie for Jassi’s affection in the film. Other actors in the film include Rana Ranbir and BN Sharma among others.

Roshan Prince said: “The film is all about the lead cast blundering through various situations which exude hilarity. It also has an underlying moral lesson - shortcuts can’t take you far.”

An acclaimed vocalist, Prince’s first acting venture was the 2008 film Lagda Hai Ishq Ho Gaya and Fer Mamala Gadbad will be his third film. Roshan has also rendered playback for the film’s soundtrack along with other acclaimed vocalists like Master Salim, Sudesh Kumari, Kamal Khan, Sonu Kakkar. The music has been given by Jaggi Singh.

An ambitious PTC Motion Pictures venture, Fer Mamla Gadbad Gadbad, will be released on July 12th. Incidentally the date will also be marked by the Bollywood release - Boys to Boys Hain - starring Bhanushree (her co-stars in the film include Ayushman Jha and Rajkumar Yadav - of Kai Po Che fame).

The film is directed by music-video director duo Rimpy-Prince. They have to their credit a movie 'Mini Punjab' featuring Gurdas Mann. Known for their path breaking music videos, they asserted that it was a challenge for them to ensure that the movie stands apart from the usual stuff.

Another highlight of the movie is its music, which is already rocking the charts. Music composer Jaggi Singh, who has written songs for films like ‘Tera Mera Ki Rishta’ and ‘Mini Punjab’, said: “The movie has 9 tracks ranging from sad to romantic to upbeat to traditional.” Rabindra Narayan, president, PTC Network, said PTC Motion Pictures would be releasing three to four Punjabi films every year. The idea was to again be in the service of the Punjabi community. He said the new venture would be working with established stars and the new talent would be also promoted. The star cast of the movie is undertaking a whirlwind promotional tour across Punjab, Haryana and New Delhi to create a buzz around the movie, which has already created lot of interest among the people at Kapurthala, Banga and Phagwara today. Their next halt would be at Ludhiana, Moga, Kotkapura, Sirsa, Patiala, Bhatinda, Yamunanagar, Sirsa, Karnal, Ambala, Delhi and Chandigarh.
