NRI dies under mysterious circumstances in Hoshiarpur

A US-based NRI, Karandeep Singh, of Kurala Khurd village in Hoshiarpur died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday. The deceased was living with his in-laws at Charan village. Neetu, the sister of the deceased, filed a complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) alleging that her brother had been poisoned.

Sarpanch elected unanimously once again

The residents of Bohara village in Aur block of the district have never felt the need of casting their vote during the panchayat polls. The villagers have been electing the sarpanch and other panchyat members unanimously for the village panchayat since its inception. Keeping the tradition intact, the panchayat has been elected unanimously once again. As the post of sarpanch of the village panchayat is reserved for the SC category.

NRI dies under mysterious circumstances in Hoshiarpur

A US-based NRI, Karandeep Singh, of Kurala Khurd village in Hoshiarpur died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday. The deceased was living with his in-laws at Charan village. Neetu, the sister of the deceased, filed a complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) alleging that her brother had been poisoned.

She had demanded an inquiry into the case. The police on the statement of the deceased's mother has initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. A postmortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family of the deceased, said Jadla police post in-charge Surinder Pal. He said the cause of death would be ascertained once the postmortem report comes.

Sarpanch elected unanimously once again

Nawanshahr, July 2
The residents of Bohara village in Aur block of the district have never felt the need of casting their vote during the panchayat polls. The villagers have been electing the sarpanch and other panchyat members unanimously for the village panchayat since its inception.

Keeping the tradition intact, the panchayat has been elected unanimously once again. As the post of sarpanch of the village panchayat is reserved for the SC category. The village has unanimously elected Mohan Lal as sarpanch. Besides, Harjinder Singh Uppal, Amarjit Singh, Jaswinder Kaur, Rattan Chand, Balwinder Kaur have unanimously been elected as panchayat members.

It is worth mentioning that the district has witnessed unanimous election of as many as 86 village panchayats. As many as 105 sarpanches and 1,330 panches have been elected unopposed in the district. Giving details, Deputy Commissioner, Tanu Kashyap said now 868 and 3,146 candidates are left in the fray for the posts of sarpanch and panchs respectively for the panchyat polls in the district.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the panchayat polls,said SSP Dhanpreet Kaur. As many as 107 booths have been identified as sensitive in the district. Police patrolling parties have been constituted and each police party would keep on patrolling in the clusters of 12 villages assigned to it, she said.
