Only 4 of 13 parking sites auctioned

At least 5 acres needed for colony in MC limits
Ludhiana, June 26
The Punjab Government has announced that the minimum area required for developing a colony within the municipal limits in the state, except for area falling under the jurisdiction of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), will be five acres whereas for areas lying outside the municipal limits, it will be 10 acres.

MC has funds, but works will have to wait

The financial condition of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation may have "improved" after a loan of Rs 100 crore was sanctioned for it, but development projects may still have to wait as the rainy season is under way. Of the Rs 100-crore loan, the MC has received around Rs 77 crore.

2 councillors get judicial remand till July 9
Ludhiana, June 26
Supporters of Independent councillor Daljit Singh Grewal, who was arrested on a charge of attempt to murder during a clash in the Shakti Nagar area, held a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner's office during a hearing in the case in the District Courts this morning. A large number of supporters of Grewal and another Independent councillor Gurpreet Gora were present in the court complex where they raised slogans in favour of the arrested councillors.

Exporters give thumbs up to 24x7 clearance of goods

Exporters have given a thumbs up to the 24x7 clearance of all export goods. From July 1 onwards, the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) will facilitate customs clearance of all export goods on a 24x7 basis from four major air cargo complexes/airports - Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.

Farmers' union protests against tractor agency

Activists of the Bharti Kissan Union (Ekta) staged a protest against a tractor agency here today. A large number of activists took part in the protest held in front of the showroom of the tractor agency at the Tehsil Road, Jagraon. The activists also raised slogans against the owner of the tractor agency for allegedly harassing a farmer who had purchased a tractor from the agency a few months ago.

You may soon not need digital signatures to file income tax returns. The Income Tax Department is contemplating giving electronic PIN (personal identification numbers) to taxpayers, which will make the electronic filing of I-T returns a hassle-free task.

Blind murder case solved
Ludhiana, June 26
The city police claimed to have cracked a blind murder case here today. The accused has been identified as Dharminder Kumar alias Narad Muni (23), a resident of Gopal Ganj Bihar. The police said the accused was already behind bars at the Central Jail in Ludhiana for a murder during a robbery in the Focal Point area a month ago.

Robbery bid foiled; worker shot at

In a broad daylight robbery attempt, two robbers shot at a worker of a fruit entrepreneur in the Salem Tabri area today. The injured worker, Vinay Kumar, was taken to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). He condition is stated to be out of danger. The incident took place around 1.15 pm when cashier Krishan Kumar and Vinay Kumar, alias Veenu, employees of Dhingra Fruit Company, located at the fruit market, were going towards the Clock Tower area on a motorcycle to deposit Rs 1.5 lakh in a bank.

5 held in engg student's murder case
Ludhiana, June 26
The city police has arrested five accused, including a son of Akali leader Kirpal Singh, in the Arsh Jangra murder case. Arsh was a student of electronics engineering at a college in Mandi Gobindgarh and was stabbed to death in Partap Nagar on  Monday night.

Aadhaar card executive thrashed

High drama was witnessed at the Head Post Office here today after an executive working for the Aadhaar card enrolment programme was allegedly beaten up by a police official reportedly at the behest of Subhash Chander, Superintendent, Circle Stamp Depot, who also holds the additional charge of Senior Postmaster.

An excellent all-round performance by Deepin Chitkara (4 for 28, and 59 runs) enabled Ludhiana Club record a six-wicket victory over Government Model Senior Secondary School, PAU, in the annual Hot Weather Cricket Tournament (U-18) being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association under the aegis of the Punjab Cricket Association at SCD Government College ground here today.
