Commuters suffer as part of NH-73 damaged
Yamunanagar, June 20 Even as the Yamuna remained much below the danger mark, which was recorded at 29,371 cusec at 4 pm, the threat of fresh floods loomed large in Kamalpur and the adjoining villages as the river bank gave in at this place. The district administration again rushed army men to the spot which repaired the damaged Yamuna bank on a war footing, thus preventing water from entering nearby villages. The movement of trains on the Ambala-Hardwar section was back to normal while commuters had to face hardships using the NH-73 from Kami Majra village up to the Yamuna bridge connecting Haryana with UP as the road had been completely destroyed in the floods. The accumulated water in villages had receded to a great extent with only some low-lying areas still submerged. Deputy Commissioner KM Pandurang said the administration had roped in the Red Cross Society and social organisations which had set up special assistance centres at strategic points in flood-hit areas. Faridabad: Water from the Yamuna entered the fields at a dozen villages, including Mauzabad and Manjhauli, this morning, creating panic among the district authorities. About 50 men who were tending to their crops in the fields were trapped in the water. They were rescued in motorboats by district management committee personnel. Standing crops were submerged and the quantum
of damage to crops was yet to assessed. Village residents alleged a lacklustre approach of
the authorities to relief measures. Deputy Commissioner Balraj Singh, who visited some of the villages
along embankments of the Yamuna this morning, said there was no cause for an alarm. Help at hand

A team of civil and police officials has been stationed in Dehradun to provide help and make transport arrangements. Water receding in Yamuna
Chandigarh,June 20 Krishna Mohan, Financial Commissioner, Revenue and Disaster Management, said today that the situation was under control even in Palwal district. However, the Army had been kept on standby to meet any eventuality.He said the Army was called in yesterday and families and cattle were shifted from Mewlipur and Indira Nagar villages to safer areas. Mohan said the road leading from Panipat to UP had three breaches. While two of the breached portions of the road had been repaired, the road had caved in at one place. The road repair was in progress. He said water and electricity supply had also been restored in affected areas of the district. As many as 10 doctors and veterinary doctors were going from village to village to treat the sick and distribute medicines. Two accuse live-in partners of rape
Gurgaon, June 20 She said Sunil promised to marry her and was living with her despite opposition from his family. “She claims that Sunil had been living with her since 2010. He had promised to marry her but had been evading it. In 2012, he reportedly married some other woman and hid the fact from her. She approached the police when she discovered the truth. The accused was nabbed and produced in court, which sent him to judicial custody,” said an investigator. In another case, a resident of Carterpuri has accused her live-in partner of raping her. The 22-year-old victim had left her two children to be with 25-year-old Dilkush of Mahendergarh, who had left his family as well. The victim claimed that her husband used to thrash her. She alleged that Dilkhush lured her and brought her here to live with him. She said he set up his juice centre, but did not marry her. She claimed that he started beating her up when she insisted. |
Minor Dalit’s rape: Haryana Police under NCPCR scanner
Chandigarh, June 20 On a complaint filed by ML Sarwan, a former Haryana bureaucrat and secretary-general of the Haryana Valmiki Mahasabha, the NCPCR has sought an action-taken report from the Haryana Police within 15 days. “You are required to get the matter investigated and take necessary action in accordance with Section 21 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POSCO) Act,2012, and refer the child to the authorities concerned for substantial compensation and rehabilitation,” an official communication from NCPCR member Nina P Nayak, asked the Haryana DGP. Sarwan had sought the dismissal of then Bhattu Kalan SHO Jagdish Prasad and ASI Devi Lal for dereliction of duty, including alleged delay of 12 days in filing an FIR in the case . However, the NCPCR was all praise for the judiciary which ensured justice for the victim through speedy trial . However,the commission regretted that no action was taken against the delinquent police officials. Even in his judgement, LN Jindal, Additional Sessions Judge, Fatehabad, had noted that “the prosecutrix and her father had to run from pillar to post to lodge a report but they were not heard and it was eventually on January 21,2013 (12 days after the crime) when their complaint was taken and the FIR registered.” On May 1, 2013, the court sentenced four persons to imprisonment for 10 years each and sent a woman to jail for five years for helping the accused. |

Gurgaon, June 20 The victim's father, a roadside barber, has been struggling to arrange money for her treatment. She has undergone multiple reconstructive surgery on her private parts and for an artificial opening to pass stool. No district administration official or minister has met her so far. "Her father is not being given any financial help and the police has failed to catch the culprit. This is a serious violation of human rights and action should be taken," read the complaint filed by RP Malhotra, state convener of the cell. The victim continues to be critical and unfit to record her statement. A sketch of the rapist has been released and a reward of 50,000 has been announced for a concrete clue. |

Rewari, June 20 Without informing the Model Town police here, her husband Arjun Singh took Reena’s body to the residence of Ganga Ram, brother of the deceased, at Sultanpuri in Delhi yesterday . Ganga Ram brought the matter to the notice of the Sultanpuri police, which in turn sent information to the Model Town police that brought back Reena's body to Rewari. The Model Town police registered a case of dowry death against Arjun and his sister-in-law Bobby, wife of his elder brother Bharat, a resident of the same colony, on a complaint filed by Ganga Ram. He has alleged that his sister got married to Arjun about three years ago. She was ill- treated by her in-laws for dowry and this forced her to end her life. Reena is survived by a one-year old baby girl. A senior police official said the matter was under investigation. |

Chandigarh, June 20 While stating this here today, Haryana Transport Commissioner Sumita Misra said all secretaries of the Regional Transport Authorities and Sub Divisional Officers (Civil)-cum-Registering Authorities, Motor Vehicle, had been asked to take into consideration the purchase price, inclusive of all expenses and taxes, for the purpose of charging tax. She said as per the Motor Vehicles Taxation Act 1924, a lump sum one-time tax was levied on a vehicle used for personal purposes, based on the purchase price of the vehicle. It had come to notice that in certain cases, the purchase price of the vehicle in the invoice was shown to be less than actual in order to evade taxes. This was a serious matter and the offenders were liable to strict legal action, she added. Misra said the ex-showroom price of different models or variants of vehicles might be obtained from the local dealers. Apart from this, the price of such vehicles was also available on the website of all the vehicle manufacturers. |
Girl consumes poison by mistake, dies
Sirsa, June 20 The police has handed over the body to her kin after conducting autopsy. Ramandeep Kaur (18), daughter of Gulab Singh, was today shifted to a private hospital in a critical condition. Her medical examination revealed that she had consumed some poisonous substance. She died during her treatment. Family members of the victim said she had been suffering from abdominal pain for the past some time and used to take some medicine. They said the victim took poison mistaking it for her medicine. The police has completed formalities under section 174 of the CrPC. |

In the other accident, 22-year-old Sonu was killed on the spot when a heavy vehicle hit him near Dighal village on the Jhajjar-Rohtak road. Hisar, June 20 Shabnam, whose husband is a security guard in a local banquet hall, was returning home after purchasing vegetables. Shabnam got off from an auto-rickshaw at Laxmi Bai Chowk and started walking towards her residence in Prem Nagar opposite Madhuban Park. As she crossed Madhuban Park, a motorcycle came from the opposite side and the youth riding pillion got off the motorbike, snatched her gold chain and ran towards the motorcycle. She tried to chase the youth but a car came between her and the youth and the latter managed to ride the motorcycle and escape towards the railway overbridge. |

Sonepat, June 20 The victim was rushed to the civil hospital by neighbours, from where he was referred to the Jaipur Golden Hospital in Delhi. But he died on the way. The footage from a CCTV camera installed in the shop revealed that the assailant entered the shop with his face covered and inquired about the price of a gold ring. He was offered a glass of water by an employee of the shop. After drinking water, the assailant took out a country-made pistol and fired at Rajinder from point blank range. |
