DC office staff hold pen-down strike:
Members of the DC’s Office Employees Union observed a pen-down strike for the third consecutive day today. They are seeking immediate recruitment of new staff for smooth functioning of the administration. The staff at Mulatto and Gidderbaha sub-divisions have also gone on pen-down strike.

Patiala
24% water samples in Patiala fail test
: Of the total water samples collected in Patiala between January and May this year, around 24 per cent have been found to be unfit for consumption. The District Health and Family Department of Patiala had collected a total of 202 samples during this period. Of these 144 were found to be potable while 48 were not fit for consumption. The results of the remaining 10 samples are still awaited.

Topwal is UKD’s Doon unit chief: Suram Singh Topwal and Kunwar Singh Rana have been appointed president and general secretary, respectively, of the district unit of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (Panwar). Addressing a recently held district-level convention, party president Trivender Singh Panwar said the party needed energy and enthusiasm of youngsters to rejuvenate it. Meanwhile, members held a two- minute silence to pay tributes to the rain-hit victims.

Disaster control room opened: Managing Director, Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL), GP Patel has opened a disaster control room at the headquarters office on GMS Road. DGM (technical) Sanjay Mittal has been made in charge of the control room. The mobile number of the control room is 9556590005 and the landline is 0135-2130077. Besides Executive Engineer Swayambhu Dhimri, eight more assistant engineers have been deputed in the control room. Tourism Minister Amrita Rawat has directed GMVN officials to provide their guest houses across the state to rehabilitate the victims of the natural disaster.
