Married woman commits suicide

Phagwara: A married woman, Jyoti (25), reportedly committed suicide by jumping before the Delhi-bound Pathankot-Delhi Express near the Santokhpura level crossing on the Jalandhar-Phagwara section today. Mental stress, caused by the death of her mother a few months ago, was said to be the cause of the suicide. Government Railway Police Phagwara, in charge, Pawitra Singh said a case had been registered and body sent for postmortem. — OC

Two arrested with intoxicant powder

Phagwara: The police has arrested two drug peddlers, identified as Mangat Ram of Bhanoki village and Davinder Kumar of Khalwara Gate under the NDPS Act and recovered 400 gm of intoxicant powder from their possession. SP Phagwara HPS khakh said, the accused Mangat Ram was nabbed with 250 gm of intoxicant powder during nakabandi near Wahid village and Davinder was arrested in the Phagwara town alongwith 150 gm of intoxicant powder. — OC

Teenager abducted, raped

Dasuya: A teenaged girl was abducted for marriage purpose and raped at Dasuya town. Police sources say the victim aged about 17, was a student of class XII.

She went to her school on December 21, 2012, for appearing in the examination. After the examination, Harinder Singh of Sadarpur and Prince of Khun Kalan abducted the girl. They took the girl in the car of Prince and visited various places where they repeatedly raped her. The Dasuya police last evening has registered a case. The police arrested Harinder Singh whereas Prince is still at large. — OC

Woman's body found

Hoshairpur:The body of an unidentified woman was found near fields at Chack Narial village last evening. According to the police, several blood clots and wounds were found on the body. It was suspected that after murdering the woman, her body had been dumped near the fields at Chack Narial village. Harwinder Pal Singh noticed the body lying near the fields and informed the police. The police sent it to the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, for postmortem. The Chabbewal police has registered a case under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC. — OC
