Batala to have new MC chief
Tribune News Service

Batala, April 19
After about one year the post of Batala Municipal Committee (MC) president remained vacant, the Local Bodies department has finally notified the name of BJP councillor Jatinder Kalyan for the same.

Kalyan is the first ever Scheduled Caste (SC) councillor to have been appointed the president of the Municipal Committee of the town. Kalyan will be joining as the new MC chief on Monday.

This is seen as a political victory for senior SAD leader LS Lodhinangal, the former chairman of the Batala Improvement Trust who has been designated as constituency in-charge of the party.

It was with the backing of Lodhinangal that Kalyan was elected as the president on August 6 last year. However, he was forced the move the High Court after the Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Trikha had declared the August 6 meeting as "null and void" citing legal infirmities in holding the meeting.
