Class 12 student found dead
Family alleges foul play even as her friend being questioned
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 26
A 17-year-old girl, who had been missing from Mangolpuri, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her male friend's house in Rohini, north Delhi, on Thursday.

The girl, who was a class 12 student, allegedly committed suicide over a possible failed relationship. Investigators have recovered a suicide note.

The girl's family alleged foul play and claimed that she may have been murdered. Her family and the local residents protested over the delay in the investigation outside the Mangolpuri police station on Friday.

Two Delhi Transport Corporation buses were damaged.

The girl lived at D-Block in Mangolpuri. On Thursday, she went to her school, but didn't return. Her parents along with the neighbours started searching for her. When they could not find her, they contacted the police.

At about 6 pm on Thursday, the police registered a missing person's complaint at the Mangolpuri police station. At about 8 pm, the girl's 20-year-old male friend informs the police that the girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at his residence in sector two, Rohini.

The police rushed to the residence and found her on the floor. Her friend told the police that he untied her from the fan. Blood was oozing from her nose and mouth. She was taken to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Jahangirpuri, where doctors declared her dead.

The police recovered the suicide note from the house and are verifying it. They are questioning her male friend.

"We believe the girl took the extreme step due to their failed relationship," said a police officer.

The youth told the police that he was staying at Mangolpuri where he met the girl. He later shifted to Rohini and the girl would frequent his house.

"She had come to meet him on Thursday. He claims that he left the house for a while and when he returned, he found the girl hanging," the officer said.

A postmortem of the girl's body was conducted today. The police are awaiting its report to learn the exact cause of her death.

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of the victim being sexually assaulted.

‘SHO gave money to rap victim’s father’
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 26
A policeman who allegedly gave Rs 2,000 to the father of a five-year-old gangrape victim in east Delhi to hush up the case has been identified as the Station House Officer of the Gandhi Nagar police station.

According to police sources, the accused is named Inspector Dharam Pal Singh, who was earlier suspended due to 'shortfalls' in his reaction to the gangrape case.

"It appears that Inspector Dharam Pal Singh gave Rs 2,000 to the victim's father as a monetary relief. He gave it as assistance to the father. The father's allegations that the uniformed officer gave money to hush up the matter do not seem to be correct as the case was registered on the day the girl went missing. She was hospitalized and the media informed," according to the sources.

The girl's father had identified the Inspector when he was shown 13 photographs of police officers and men. He said that the uniformed policeman with four men, who were wearing plainclothes, had approached him at the Swami Dayanand Hospital in northeast Delhi at about 10 pm on April 18.

The police have not identified the men in plainclothes as yet.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Khajoori Khas, Bani Singh Ahlawat, is facing action under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly slapping a female protestor at the Dayanand Hospital. He was earlier suspended for this incident.

Section 323 is a non-cognizable offence. In non-cognizable offences, the police can neither register an FIR nor effect arrest without the permission or directions from the court.

New Delhi, April 26
Condemning Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for announcing a three-member committee for allotment of houses under Rajiv Ratan Housing Project, leader of the Opposition in the Delhi assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra said that it was another tactic to confuse the citizens of Delhi.

The housing project was started in 2008 and by using the name of Rajiv Gandhi, the people were being fooled as the Chief Minister had assured that the government would construct and hand over 60,000 houses under it. But, so far, only 14, 844 flats could be constructed, Malhotra said.

He said that even the Lokayukta had passed stricture on the Chief Minister, stating that the people have been misled by her through her empty and false assurances . It is surprising that crores of rupees have been spent on hoardings, squandering the hard-earned money of the public.
