Stricter laws required to check crime against women
Mussoorie, December 29 Warsi said the girl’s death today was indeed heart rendering and it had shaken the soul of every Indian. He added even the death sentence was not enough for the culprits of the heinous crime. The culprits in rape cases should be given a severe punishment which could send shivers down the spine of such cowards who indulge in heinous acts. There is also need to change the system. He said the law should be tough enough to be a deterrent for the criminals. Warsi said his forthcoming film “Jolly LLB” was about the present system and the people would find it close to reality. Director Kabir Khan expressing grief over the girl’s death said the women had become vulnerable in society and the need of the hour was to change the mindset of the people to stop such incidents from recurring. He said the government should provide speedy justice to such victims so that the faith of the women could be reposed in the system. Asked whether the glorification of eve-teasing in films was one of the reasons for the increase in such incidents, Kabir said to some extent the films were also responsible for increase in crime against women and the film-makers should keep in mind the sensitivity and dignity of women while making films. However, he said the films were only a mirror to society and blaming the film-makers for the increase in crime was not fair. Speaking on the Rs 100 crore club and the blockbuster hit attitude among the film fraternity, Kabir said for him a film was more important than how much it receives at the box office. He added both “Kabul Express” and “Ek Tha Tiger” were challenging in their own sense and he enjoyed every bit of them. At present Kabir is busy on the script of another film and Warsi is awaiting his next film “Zilla Ghaziabad”, which is scheduled to be released on February 22. |
