Accused sent to judicial custody
Tribune News Service

Panchkula, October 9
The paternal uncle and brother of the Karnal girl who fell victim to honour killing were produced in court today and were sent to judicial custody. Jasmer Singh, the victim's paternal uncle, and Aman, her brother, were arrested yesterday evening by the Panchkula police.

Anju,15, was allegedly strangulated to death by Jasmer Singh, Aman and her maternal uncle for falling in love with her neighbour Vijay. The maternal uncle is still
at large.

It was on July 24 that Anju's skeleton, a resident of Karnal, was found
hanging from a tree in Morni. Clothes of the deceased were also found near the spot.

Reportedly, the accused accompanied Anju in an auto-rickshaw on the pretext of taking her to a temple. When it grew dark, they allegedly strangulated her and hanged her body from a tree to make it look like a suicide.

The girl's family had moved to Chandigarh after the affair made it 'embarrassing' for them to stay in their village, Doda Karsa.

It was a tragic end to the love story, as the girl Anju has been killed in honour killing and Vijay is about to get married to another woman. Anju and Vijay were neighbours and were seeing each other for the past three-four years.

The two also tried to get married in court by faking Vijay's paternal aunt as his mother, but the family of the girl had raised objection. The police are suspecting the involvement of other family members too.
