Manch: Begin work on Surajpur-Basaulan bypass
Kalka, September16 Notably, the government had already sanctioned this 7-km mini bypass and had already acquired 250 acres of land in this context. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was to construct this by pass. But the said authority has not taken any initiative to construct this bypass till date. After the construction, the mini bypass would connect the NH-22 with the NH-21-A. It would certainly help in smooth running of traffic in Pinjore. Resentment prevails among the thousands of daily commuters from Chandigarh to Baddi towards the government and NHAI for their lethargic attitude over the construction of the Surajpur-Basaulan mini bypass. They alleged that the frequent traffic jam on NH-21 A (Pinjore-Nalagarh highway) due to the bottleneck of Pinjore narrow bazaar, they have to face much inconvenience to reach their destinations. The residents informed The Tribune that the frequent traffic jams on the Pinjore-Nalagarh highway have already claimed several lives, but the concerned authorities of the NHAI have become silent spectators on the issue of construction of above said mini bypass. The daily commuters have demanded the government and the NHAI to start the work of construction of above said project. They said the construction of this mini-bypass would be a viable solution to ease the traffic disruption problem in Pinjore. |

Davis Cup: many prefer to miss action on day 3
Chandigarh, September 16 Be it reason of humidity or no big names coming to represent the nation, the stadium missed the presence of spectators, on all the three days of the international level tennis tourney. Even tough, the matches were played on weekends; the local residents did not bother to cheer the players. “It is something like that cannot be accepted. The city is such a wonderful place and I was not expecting this from here. Before 19 years, the same stadium was jampacked and Australians defeated us badly. Now, that we have young talent, no one is bothered to appreciate it. Had it been any cricket match, people would have been dying to get passes. The stadium has everything, peace, good courts, a clear eagle eye view but no public made the tournament a dumb squib,” said MG Devasahayam, founder president of the CLTA and former Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh. Adding further, “India is proving to be a dying nation, when it comes to nurture the level of sports. Not only bureaucrats but also a layman is also contributing in it. On field, a player needs motivation and excitement that a good and decent crowd could give. People here are well educated and intelligent; they know how to maintain silence over the rally (set) and when to hoot for the players. If these trainees can come and enjoy on ‘Dhol’ beats then why not other people. It hurts when you see your creation being empty and proven to be a dumb squib,” said Devasahayam. The third day of the international competition brought good news for the Indian squad after the host nation registered a 5-0 win over the New Zealand. Soon, after the tournament got over, the kiwis left the city for the capital in evening. High day for Sanam Singh As expected, Chandigarh’s local lad Sanam Singh held the court on the last day of the competition, here at the CLTA courts today. He replaced Vishun Vardhan, who played both doubles and singles tie, least evening. In the reverse-finals of singles, Sanam brought cheers for the city after naming the game in straight sets. This victory turned out to be India’s first straight set victory over the rivals. Sanam named the game by 6-4 and
6-1. “I am happy that I performed well and registered a straight victory for the nation. Being a local, there was lot of expectations from me. Although we were leading by 4-0 but the pressure of winning the match and naming the tournament in style was there. My teammates played well and we as the team bagged the tournament,” said
Sanam. “He is a player with great potential and being a local lad. It’s good that he played well. The player has shown a lot of potential and hopefully will take city’s and nation’s name ahead,” said a CLTA coach. |
