Patients’ rush to blame: PGI

The fact-finding committee of the PGI constituted to probe the ‘lapses’ in the treatment resulting in Anupama’s death has found the overcrowding and unending rush of patients at the PGI’s Advanced Trauma Centre as the only reason for the tragedy.

In a freak accident, a Haryana-cadre 1983-batch IAS officer, Keshni Anand Arora, her daughter and the driver of their car were injured after a car moving in the opposite lane on Madhya Marg separating Sectors 9 and 17 hit the divider and jumped in the air landing on their car this afternoon.

Chandigarh, July 28
Robbery was the motive behind the murder of Kailash Chand, who was shot dead at his shop in Sector 22 on July 26, while his brother and servant were seriously injured. Out of three accused, the police has arrested two, identified as Sanchit Verma, a resident of Sector 22, and Nazir Khan of Sector 56. The third accused, identified as Rakesh, is still at large.

Only 15 policemen to control traffic in Mohali

Do not be surprised to see the absence of a traffic policeman on a majority of streets in the ‘model city’ Mohali. The traffic police and people ratio in the city is abominably low. To be precise: 1:15,000. The handful of traffic policemen who stand on streets have only a challan book as a tool to make people stick to rules.

The Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources, Pawan Kumar Bansal, today handed over the possession letters of 602 flats to slum dwellers at Sector 49C, Chandigarh, today. These flats have been constructed by the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) under a slum rehabilitation scheme.

Power Tariff Hike
Cong committee stages dharna
Mohali, July 28
The Mohali District Congress Committee staged a dharna outside Deputy Commissioner Varun Roojam office in protest against levying of taxes and power tariff hike. The protesters led by Mohali MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu blocked traffic and raised slogans against the Punjab government. A memorandum was later handed to the Deputy Commissioner by Congress leaders.

300 saplings planted
Mohali, July 28
More than 200 saplings were planted in two separate plantation drives that took place at Phase VII and Phase XI today. In the first plantation drive, Mohali SDM Lakhmir Singh planted saplings in the Neighbourhood Park in Phase XI this morning. Lakhmir Singh said every person should come forward for this noble cause as trees give us life. The administration would give saplings free of cost to anyone, who wanted to be a part of the campaign, said Lakhmir Singh.

Injured student discharged from govenment hospital
Chandigarh,July 28
A day after three students fell from the building of Government High School, Sector 11, one of them, Ranjit Singh, who had sustained minor injuries, was discharged from the Government Hospital, Sector 16, on Saturday morning. Another student Rajesh, who suffered elbow displacement in the right arm, is likely to be discharged on Sunday.

108 Service organises traffic awareness campaign

Ziqitza Healthcare Limited (ZHL), which operates “Dial 108 in emergency ambulance service” in Punjab has organised a public awareness campaign in association with the Punjab traffic police yesterday at the Zirakpur-Delhi highway. SMO, Dr Daler Singh Multani, flagged off the rally, in which 108 ambulance service with its four ambulances and crew travelled from Zirakpur towards the national highway and later stationed at the Dappar toll plaza near Lalru for the entire day.

The CBI Court today awarded three years' imprisonment to a former liquidator of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ashish Vajpayee, in a disproportionate assets case. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.

Panchkula, July 28
In a major development in the income tax (I-T) officer bribery case, the CBI court announced two years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15,000 to the officer today.

Lawyer held taking bribe from NRI
Chandigarh, July 28
CBI today arrested Harvinder Behal, an advocate from Ludhiana, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh from an NRI on the pretext of getting his loan of Rs 68 lakh sanctioned from Andhra Bank, Sector 17.
