BSF jawan commits suicide: A BSF jawan, Raman Bharti, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle last night. A constable with the 65th battalion, Raman belonged to Jagatpura village in
Gurdaspur. He was deputed near gate number 103 on the India-Pakistan border fence when his colleagues heard gunshots. They rushed towards the pillar and found him lying in a pool of blood. The incident occurred at 2.25 am.

Missing holy book found: The ancient holy book that went missing from a gurdwara at Kalyan Malka village was found on Saturday near Kotha Guru village. Nathana SHO Sandeep Singh said those who stole the book kept it near a temple after the police launched a combing operation. "The holy book is an ancient scripture," the SHO said. He said the accused had been identified and would be arrested soon.

178 cases settled in lok adalat: As many as 178 cases were settled amicably at the monthly Lok Adalats held at Judicial Complex, Nawanshahr and
Balachaur, under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority here on Saturday. As many as 311 cases pertaining to civil, land, accident claims, matrimonial disputes were heard by the different benches and compensations amounting to Rs 77,51,698 were ordered.
