2 killed in mishap: Two persons were killed in separate accidents here on Friday. A speeding private bus rammed into a motorcycle near Badkal flyover killing the pillion rider. The victim's elder brother, who was driving the motorcycle, was injured in the incident. However, the driver has been arrested. In another accident, a dumper loaded with construction materials ran over a labourer crushing him to death and injuring another in the NIT area. The driver of the dumper fled the scene.Kaithal
3 get 7-yr jail: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge RS Choudhry awarded seven years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 each to three persons in a robbery case. SP Kuldip Singh said here on Thursday that Bijender Kumar of Dhanouri village was coming to Kaithal on his motorcycle on October 7, 2009. The three accused forcibly stopped him and looted Rs 2,000, a cellphone and a wallet at gunpoint. Three held: The police has arrested three persons near Palwal, two km from here, on Thursday and recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, two live cartridges and a dagger from their possession. District police chief Rakesh Kumar Arya said the arrested persons had been identified as Snadeep Kumar, Anil and Rahul. He said during interrogation they confessed that they were plotting crime. Power tariff hike: The state unit of the CPM has opposed the increase in power rates by the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam. It has demanded an immediate withdrawal of the hike orders. Describing the hike as sudden and arbitrary decision of enhancement in the name of fuel surcharge, the party said it was totally unacceptable. Party state secretary Inderjit Singh said the power rates were hiked only during April last and there was no need or justification to burden the consumers already suffering due to continued inflationary conditions. In-laws booked: Shashi Devi (25), wife of Suresh Kumar, set herself on fire after sprinkling kerosene at Rajgarh village, 15 km from here, on Wednesday. She succumbed to her burns in a private hospital here on Thursday evening. On the complaint of the victim’s father, Hari Pal, the police registered a case of abetment to suicide against husband Suresh Kumar, father-in-law Vijay Singh and mother-in-law Anokha Devi . Hari Pal complained that as Suresh, a liquor addict, used to treat his daughter cruelly, she was forced to take the extreme step. The victim is survived by two sons.
