It was not less than a nightmare for those who were injured in a road accident near Jagraon today. A police official died on the spot while eight others were injured when a police Jeep they were travelling in collided head-on with a speeding private bus coming from the opposite direction.

Police to auction vehicles with no claimants

One patient from Jalandhar tests positive

A suspected dengue patient from Jalandhar, who is under treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital since yesterday, has tested positive. Confirming this, district epidemiologist Dr Anil Verma said, "The 23-year-old patient, Dushyant Kumar, from Jalandhar has tested positive."
Money order through SMS planned

BSNL and India Post have tied-up to offer money order service using mobile phones. According to an official, the receiver of the money would get an SMS for the transaction and could get the cash from post office by showing the message. The new project is at the planning stage and would be introduced after conducting a pilot in August or September this year. The pilot project is expected to be carried out in Punjab, Kerala, Bihar, and Delhi circles, he said.
Health officials destroy uncovered eatables

To prevent spread of diseases during the monsoon, a team of health department destroyed uncovered eatables and rotten fruits and vegetables at various spots in the city on Thursday. The team checked the shops of eatables and fruits at the bus stand, Jawahar Nagar Camp, Kochhar Market, Bharat Nagar Chowk, etc. on the directions of the Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, Dr Subhash Batta.
Rural students fast taking to fashion designing

Some are studying it as an additional subject others are studying it as a full-fledged subject. Police set to launch eight MSVs for effective policing

The city police is all set to launch nearly eight mobile surveillance vans (MSV) for effective policing. Equipped with close circuit television (CCTV) camera that will be directly linked with the control room through high- speed Internet, these vans will be deployed at all major roundabouts and popular market places of the city and it will provide live telecast to the police officials sitting in the control room.

LIT adopts proposal for additional parking space

Hours before the state government dissolved all 28 improvement Trusts in the state on Wednesday, the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) adopted a proposal to provide additional parking space in the proposed 8.8-acre multi-storey housing complex, the Atal Apartments, to be constructed at the Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar on the Pakhowal road here.

Costs for 7 months pending

It is a tough time for teachers of government schools, which have not been receiving the cost to run the midday meal scheme.
The government had released funds in April, 2012, for pending cooking costs till December, 2011. The costs for seven months was still pending.
