Advocate dies as truck hits scooter

A city-based advocate was killed after a rashly driven truck hit the scooter he was riding at Zirakpur today. The victim, 60-year-old Surinder Chandna, a resident of Sector 22, received a head injury and died on the spot.

CTU to reduce Metro bus frequency on PGI-P’kula route

Within a month of starting the metro bus service on the PGI-Panchukla section, the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) is contemplating to reduce the frequency of the bus service in the afternoon. Presently, 24 buses are being run on the route after every five minutes.

On the fifth day of fast by the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) Residents’ Federation, two more fasting camps were set up. One was set up at Sector 24 and the second at Mauli Jagran.

An awareness camp was organised by the department of Social Security, Women and Child Developmet at Durali village here today. Ajit Kaur Multani, District Programme Officer, stated that women will have to come forward to fight the problem of female foeticide and only then it will be possible to witness positive results because women were themselves responsible for female foeticide to a great extent.

BCom cut-offs reach new high
Chandigarh, July 13
Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma (GGDSD) College, Sector 32, has yet again walked away with the 'cream' students as it had the highest cut-off for BCom admissions among the city colleges this year. While the admissions closed at 107.2 score points in the UT pool, it stood at 110.2 in the general pool.

Joint counselling for NIPER from July 17

A joint couselling for admission to the seven National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research will be organised on the NIPER campus here from July 17 to 19. The joint counselling will be held for admission to the postgraduate courses — MS (Pharm), MPharm and MTech (Pharm).

A 59-year-old person was run over by a train near Lalru on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Jagpal Singh a resident of Gazipur village in Ambala district Ambala.
