Muktsar, July 7
A case of fraud has surfaced in this town wherein two imposters allegedly sold a house for Rs 5 lakh in April this year. The house belonged to two brothers, who had died way back in 1952 and 1966.

The heirs of the owner of the house have even lodged a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP almost two months ago, but neither the imposters have so far been traced nor any action has been taken in this regard.

In his complaint, NK Saxena, an ex-serviceman and a Chandigarh resident, stated that the house was registered jointly in the names of his father Lachman Prasad Saxena and uncle Ram Chander Saxena.

“But some time ago, we learnt that some unidentified persons, posing as my father and uncle, sold the house located near the Mohan Lal Street to a resident of Chak Bir Sarkar village for Rs 5 lakh,” alleged NK Saxena.

He alleged, “We have even provided a duplicate copy of the registry of the property and the death certificates, but the officials concerned are not taking any action in this regard. In the past about two months, we have come from Chandigarh to Muktsar thrice but the accused have not been traced yet.”

A complaint has been lodged by name against the purchaser, the witness and the nambardar concerned of Lambi Dhabh village.

When contacted, SDM Dalvinderjit Singh said, “We have recorded the statement of the purchaser and the complainant and the police is trying to trace the persons who sold the house,” adding that it seemed the persons made some fake identity proof and used it to sell the house.

Meanwhile, the complainant has alleged that when he along with his son and a relative was returning from Muktsar to Chandigarh last evening, some unidentified persons, who were in an SUV, intercepted their vehicle near Kotkapura and attacked them. A separate complaint has been lodged at the Kotkapura police station in this regard, he claimed.

In a surprising turn of events in a daylight burglary case, which was cracked by the police today, the house lady turned out to be the one who had allegedly hatched the plan to steal gold and cash from the house.

The lady, identified as Sarbajit Kaur, had earlier alleged that few masked men had entered her house in the Friend’s Colony area in absence of her husband and other family members and decamped with gold and cash amounting to Rs 8.85 lakh.

While addressing mediapersons here today, SSP Hardial Singh Mann said in her statement to the police, Sarabjit had complained that robbers, who had come on the pretext of selling books, administered her some sedative, locked her two children inside a washroom and took away gold and cash lying in the house.

The SSP said following the incident, a police team, led by DSP Jagjit Singh Saroya and SHO Gurinderjit Singh, started detailed investigations in the case. During the course of inquiry, it came out that Sarabjit alias Shampy along with her old friend, identified as Harkarandeep Singh, had executed theft in the house and later, she concocted a story to hoodwink the police besides her own family members.

The SSP said the lady was allegedly having an affair with her accomplice and on the day when all the family members, including her husband, were away, she called him to her house and enacted the entire theft sequence.

Mann added that the stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 5.01 lakh besides Rs 6,000 in cash has been recovered.

The SSP said both the culprits have been arrested.

He added that Sarabjit Kaur was earlier working in the same house as a maid and later, got married to Ranbir Singh, the only son of the owner of the house Kulwant Singh Johal, a retired bank official.
