City wakes up to monsoon’s first showers

Rain belies MC claims, several areas inundated

Tall claims of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation stood exposed today as the first monsoon showers caused massive waterlogging in many parts of the city.'

Crime record cell: Details of criminals a click away

The city police has constituted a crime record cell to keep a tab on the criminals. The cell will monitor the activities of criminals and their modus operandi. By entering details of an individual or a gang in a computer software, the city police will be able to access their past records with the click of a mouse.

The people of localities where dairies are located rue that the dairies have been polluting the environment and increasing unhygienic conditions in the area. No junk food in schools: CBSE
Ludhiana, July 7
To keep students away from junk food and soft drinks, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed to all its affiliated schools to prohibit the sale of junk food in school canteens. It was however, noted by the Board authorities that the obesity was increasing among school-going children. The CBSE has also instructed the officials to form the Health clubs in schools to make the students.

To review the safety and the security of the banks of the area, the local police held a meeting with the managers and senior officials of the branches of various banks located in Jagraon and that of the surrounding areas here today.

‘Punjabi cinema witnessing revival’

It was the city's date with Punjabi entertainment stars as star cast of Punjabi movie “Yaraan Naal Baharaan-II” in the city here today. In a press conference at a resort here, an album of a UK-based singer, Jeet Hakam, was also released.

‘No car bazaar from today’
Ludhiana, July 7
The traffic police has asked shopkeepers of the car bazaar at the Gian Singh Rare Wala Market, near Preet Cinema, Model Town, not to put cars on sale and purchase in the bazaar. Acting tough with the shopkeepers, the traffic police has conveyed a “stern” message that if they tried to violate the orders, they have to face the music.

‘Report dengue cases to health department’
Ludhiana, July 7
Keeping in view the dengue cases, which have started pouring in from different areas of the city, the Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, today instructed all members of the Indian Medical Council (IMA), Ludhiana, to report all cases to the health department. He said this while interacting with them at the IMA House during a seminar on dengue, malaria, water and vector-borne diseases organised by the IMA, Ludhiana, and health department.

An attempt to snatch a purse from a woman cost dear to two snatchers, who were handed over to the police by residents and passersby. According to information, two youths on a motorcycle tried to snatch a purse from a woman passing through the Krishna Nagar area this evening.

Rwa, Residents at loggerheads
Ludhiana, July 7
The closed gate near the Government College for Boys in Ludhiana. Residents of Sant Nagar have been at loggerheads with Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) for not opening a gate installed recently. A group of residents alleged that the gate installed opposite the main gate of SCD Government College has been closed permanently by members of the RWA.

Patient needs financial help
Ludhiana, July 7
Sosan Daniel, a 60-year-old resident of Ludhiana, has been hospitalised since June 2 with the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus type 2, diabetic nephropathy, CKD-stage V, systemic hypertension and obstructive sleep apnoea. She requires respiratory support for her OSA and has been advised dialysis, which has been deferred due to the financial constraints.

Tajpur road to be industrial area soon, says minister

A notification for declaring the Tajpur road, Ludhiana, as the industrial area will be released soon, as it has been passed by the cabinet, this was stated by the Cabinet Minister, Industry and Commerce Technical Education and Industrial Training, Anil Joshi.
